Fri.1.30.15... Coaches Training Month 2 Review Test... part 2

Today is part 2 of our Coaches Training Review Test. You will Ace this! No erasing necessary.

Please go back over a few of the blogs from Mon.1.19.15 through Fri.1.28.15. Again, you can look at what I wrote or what you wrote.

1.-Pull together 2 things you really liked learning about and post them today. If you need more time, you can work on the test over Saturday as well. (Who loves ya?:) Please post your answers by Saturday night though.

2.-By Sunday night, please share one or more of these things with men you’re seeking to recruit to be your protégés. You can call them up or even email them. (I’ll follow up with you Monday on the blog regarding who you shared with.)

3.-Did you quote correctly to someone what H.O.U.S.E. and M.A.N.L.Y. stands for?

4.-True or False- The consequence for a brother in M3 not calling you back by the following night is that he needs to offer to buy you a doughnut or a drink.

If you have not yet completed your GPD from last week Thursday, which was due Monday, you need to get 'er done by Saturday night. (Otherwise, as I said yesterday, please tell me Monday what your consequences should be :) If you did already complete and post your summary thoughts of that 9 minute overview on Titus, and you are not credited below on the GREAT scoreboard for this, please contact me and let me know where I can find it. I want to make sure I didn't make a mistake here. Thanks.

Optional: If you’re looking for something in God’s word to read today, here’s another favorite passage regarding Unstoppable Paul- 2 Cor.11:16-33. If you have more time, 12:1-13 finishes his train of thought. You can put down one of the phrases from it on your MP3 card. Again, I’m making this optional because I don’t want to give you too much.

5.-R?

6.-A?

I'm sure you're going to Ace this test. You're bright- a son of God.
Did you hear about the not so bright guy? He spent 3 days studying for a urine test.

Words Worth Repeating
Jack wrote- "Divisive people can become like cancer, as their argumentative ways and anti- system personalities drag other's positive attitudes down, as both sides now become non-productive. Instead of focusing on the prize, our Lord, they are focused on being right and proving an argumentative point, which most of the time is of no consequence. They draw other good men down as they pull their focus off God's mission and turn it to combating an unimportant issue. Now our movement forward and being used by God for his purpose is halted and we are not productive toward the Kingdom. Reprimand him 2x to let him know of his divisive ways, then cut off contact with him if he continues. Cancer spreads-- so cut it out early to avoid the spreading-- so we can be more effective."

Th.1.29.15...Coaches Training Month 2 Review Test

Congratulations! You’ve made it almost all the way through month 2 of Coaches Training and you are doing GREAT! Today and tomorrow we want to again take time to review what we’ve learned so that the giant eraser machine doesn’t wipe away what we’ve studied. I guarantee you will pass this test. Today is Part 1. Here's all ya gotta do. Go back over a few of the blogs from Mon.1.5.15 through Fri.1.16.15. (Tomorrow, we’ll cover the last half of January.) You can look at what I wrote or what you wrote.

1.-Pull together 2 things you really liked learning about and post them today. from Jan.5th-16th. Just give me the basics.

2.-By Sunday night, please share one or more of these things with men you’re seeking to recruit to be your protégés. You can call them up or even email them. I’ll ask you Monday if ya got ‘er done. (Remember, you can start encouraging men to apply to be proteges all through the month of February.)

3.-Find someone to quiz you on what MANLY and the HOUSE of Power HOUSE praying stands for. Knock it out today because tomorrow I'm going to ask you if you were able to properly quote it. Good job!

If you have not yet completed your GPD from last week Thursday, which was due Monday, you need to complete it and post your summary tomorrow. Otherwise, please tell me what your consequences should be:) I won't let your proteges disrespect you either. (Who loves ya?)

Optional: If you’re looking for something in God’s word to read today, here’s one of my favorite passages regarding Paul- Acts 20:17-38. You could also copy down one of the phrases from it on your MP3 card. I’m making this optional because I don’t want to give you too much today. (Who loves ya?)

4.-R? (As it's been said, "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do.") I'll post an R here for a man I tried to help who was sliding into false teaching. He still is upset with me. I hope Pastor Mike and I together can resolve this and his animosity toward me. I'd appreciate your prayers. Thanks. This actually underscores good news that I'm eager to share with you at our next M3 meeting at Jack's Feb.8th at 3:00PM. And of course you are welcome for the 1:00 DVD Bible study.

Wed.1.28.15...Being a Godly MENTOR...(Model part 8)

2:04 p.m., March 23, 2003 Associated Press
KUWAIT CITY – A U.S. soldier most likely acted out of resentment Sunday when he threw grenades into tents at a 101st Airborne Division command center, killing a fellow serviceman, an Army spokesman said. Fifteen other soldiers, including the division commander, were wounded – at least three of them seriously …The soldier in custody was identified Sunday as Sgt. Asan Akbar of the 326th Engineer Battalion. Fort Campbell spokesman George Heath said…Akbar had been "having what some might call an attitude problem."

I’d say he had a huge attitude problem! It’s tragic that his bad attitude problem wasn’t recognized and dealt with earlier, before things so escalated. Even in the army of God, if bad attitudes and behaviors are not confronted, great damage can occur. Despite your best efforts at being a good model as a mentor, some might become argumentative and divisive. Sadly, this is not a new problem. Paul prepared Titus to deal with such. Read and discover what we should do in Titus 3:9-11.

Of course not everyone who disagrees is a divisive person. Some men may just need to be taught to be more gracious when disagreeing. “Let’s agree to disagree agreeably.” Sometimes a (younger) man may have issues with authority. Perhaps his dad was abusive, and now he has a chip on his shoulder toward any authority figures. Paul began chapter 3 stating- “Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient…”(3:1). Granted, that may be harder for a man who had an abusive father, but he now has a heavenly Father to help him and us as well.

Throughout church history, there have been divisive disagreements over the proper interpretation of the Bible. But Paul said to avoid quarreling about such things because these are unprofitable. In contrast, one verse earlier, Paul said that devoting ourselves to doing good is excellent and profitable (3:8). As with the Marines, we are looking for a few good men- men who will devote themselves to doing good, not causing division and destruction.

Sometimes, a divisive man may seem very spiritual. He is convincing and talks as if he has a hotline to heaven.  I’ve dealt with such people. It’s near impossible to reason with them, even from the authority of God’s word, since they are confident that God has revealed to them the true meaning of the Bible. Another military motto we adhere to is, “No man left behind!” We will help any man that is wounded and wants to be restored to God and to the mission (see Gal.6:1-2). But that motto doesn’t apply if the man is fighting against you-being divisive. To paraphrase Paul’s directive in dealing with such a divisive man- it’s three strikes and you’re out (3:10).  We don’t need anyone lobbing hand grenades in our midst.

This letter to Titus gave him God’s strategy for conquering the island of Crete for Christ. It centered on giving the people godly examples and exhortations to follow. Paul ends his letter with concluding comments. Read 3:12-15. Paul would send a couple of his outstanding, spiritual military officers to fill in for Titus, who was then to join Paul at his winter base of operations. Other vital men on mission were to be helped in any way necessary to further the cause. Then a final reminder is given- “Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.” 3:14. They were to no longer be like their lazy neighbors (1:12). Paul had strong words of warning for those who were lazy in 2 Thess.3:6-15. “Keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.” (2 Th.3:6). So when seeking out a protégé, make sure he has a good work ethic, that he’s happy to help and serve others, not sponge off them.

1.-What is one thing that stood out to you from anything we’ve covered today?

2.-Write out on your MP3 card, “Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good…” Titus 3:14. Then do the Did it. Men, you are also doing good by going off to work faithfully. Titus would have been delighted to have such great models for his people. I am too! “Grace be with you all” Titus 3:15

Words Worth Repeating
Roger Vinlasaca wrote- Thank you Lord that because you sent Jesus to die on the cross and raised Him from the dead on the third day, we have been redeemed from all sin. And we have been set apart to be zealous for good works. May we continue to be strong in our calling.

Dave Heidekruger wrote- Heavenly Father, we praise you for transforming our hearts that were once sunk in ungodliness and worldly pleasures. By your grace that brings salvation, continue to purify our hearts and refresh our desires to live for You as we anticipate your glorious appearing.

Tues.1.27.15...Being a Godly MENTOR...(Model part 7)

In the movie “The Patriot” Mel Gibson plays the role of Francis Marion. He was a brave fighter, made Captain in the French and Indian War some 15 years before the Revolutionary War began.  His wife had previously died and recently his son, Thomas was killed in a savage battle. After this, he and his sister-in-law have an exchange of words that are haunting to me:
Marion: How did this... how did I let this happen?
CHARLOTTE: You couldn't have known.
MARION: I should have known... once I would have... I used to be wary... and today I watched my son killed before my eyes... your sister civilized me and I damn myself for having let her...
CHARLOTTE: Thomas is dead, but you've done nothing for which you should be ashamed.
MARION: I've done nothing, and for that I am ashamed.

Men, we are at war and I’m so glad you are a patriot, fighting for the cause of liberty in Christ for men. You won’t have to hang your head and say, “I’ve done nothing, and for that I am ashamed.” How sad that there are many men who are good Christian men, but they are not involved to the great commission. They have bought into a Sunday morning Christianity. They ignore getting involved in the battle and forfeit their manhood on the couch of comfort. It’s good to be good in heart, but I don’t want to be good for nothing. We were made to be good soldiers of Christ Jesus. There’s a war to be won, so complacency we must shun.

Paul’s short letter to Titus is a brilliant battle plan for transforming “not good” people into people “eager to do what is good” (2:14). These evil brutes and lazy gluttons (1:12) needed to become a lean, mean, fighting machine of good works to “make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.” (2:10). Such transformations occur best when we are MENTORS who Model such. Thus, note again Paul’s strategic command, “In everything set them an example by doing what is good.” Titus 2:7. Half a dozen times in this short letter, you’ll see this emphasis on doing good. It’s to be for the glory of our Savior and the salvation of the lost which we once were.

There’s a lot of shallow teaching, which some would like to call “deeper life” teaching, that stresses “Me and Jesus” and just being “spiritual” apart from doing. Ugh! Yes, we need to continually nurture our relationship with Christ, but it is for a purpose. Some are so focused on trying to practice the presence of Christ, yet they have ignored practicing the purpose of Christ- the great commission (Multiplying MANLY men). That’s faith without deeds- it’s dead! If such people want to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant” perhaps they ought to be getting something done as good and faithful servants and soldiers. They have sidestepped the great commission and the battle. They have done nothing and for this they should be ashamed! (Okay, thanks for letting me get that out of my system.)

Now let’s discover how else to help our protégés and ourselves lead lives that make the teaching of God our Savior attractive. Read Titus 3:1-8. Once again you’ll notice good behavior is exhorted.

1.-In 3:3 Paul uses several dismal words to describe our old days and our old ways. What words (not sentences) would you use to describe your past? (Feel free to use some of the words Paul used if that well described you.)

2.Why did Christ save you according to 3:4-7? Use one or more short phrases from the passage to answer this. (Here’s examples of short phrases, but one’s I know you won’t copy: “Because I was good.” “Because God needed me on His team.”)

3.-The passage we’ve studied, Titus 3:1-8, begins and ends with an exhortation to do good works. This is what we are to model and teach as well. But where would you show someone in the Bible that we are not saved by our good works? Often Eph.2:8-9 is used and that truly is an excellent passage. But Titus 3:5 is also a great verse to show people. So write it down on your MP3 card and then do the Did it.

4.-R?

5.-A? (Keep pressing the Attack. It is through such warfare prayer that we set captives free from the power of Satan and complacency. Regarding such spiritual warfare, so many have done nothing, and for that they will be ashamed.)

Recent words worth Repeating
Regarding setting an example in our speech, Mike wrote, "It's been a long time since I swore. Like George, in a sense, I worked for the City of Chicago for twenty seven years. I was a ruff and tough Chicago Police Officer in the beginning. I was known on the streets by the gang members as "Hit Man." This was before Christ. I swore a lot and I had to straighten the gang members up from time to time. Hence the nick name hit man. It was in my 12th year on the force when I came to know Jesus as my personal Savoir. The nick name hit man was gone and replaced with preacher and or Jesus freak. I was used by God to speak into the gang member's lives as well as other offenders of various crimes. I did my job and then spoke to them about God. It was touching to see how God made them cry and made them think about the road they were taking. I had a hand-full of them stop me on the streets to thank me, but I told them it was God not me that did anything.
