Mon.5.11.15...Who Do You Love?...Prov.8

Two women want you! They are both vying for your love. In Proverbs 7, the wayward woman did her very best to lure you into her embrace. But her love was only skin deep. She was a pawn of your greatest enemy who is out to destroy your life. Today in Proverbs 8, the woman of wisdom does her best to win your love and devotion. Sad to say, a lot of men turn her down. They are content to love their little pleasures and routines. They would never go out of their way to follow the Lord of wisdom and His ways. But God, in His love and wisdom, is so persistent, even toward the simple and foolish. 8:4-5.

Wisdom's speech in Prov.8 reveals that she is one amazing woman, worthy of pursuing.

And it's as if she is inviting loving suitors. She loves and greatly blesses those who will devotedly love her. "For wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her." 8:11
Her family background and work experiences are amazing! 8:22-31.
She is remarkable in so many ways! 8:14-16.
But you do need to share her values for this relationship to work. "I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech." 8:13.
She wants to be cherished and pursued. "I love those who love me and those who seek me find me." 8:17. "For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord" 8:35

I'm so glad that you prize and seek out her love and wisdom each day. "Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway." 8:34. Some of you get up very early to meet with the Lord and take in his words of wisdom. Others of you stay up late to do so. You are proving your love and putting God and his word as your top priority, even if it is to the point of "No scripture, no sleep." (What great stories many of you shared last Thursday regarding doing such when it was so hard. How manly!)

1.-Read Proverbs 8 and write as if you were sharing with a teenage son or young protege about how pursuing God and His wisdom has blessed you.

2.-Write on your MP3 card-"I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech." Prov.8:13. These are the values and feelings you and I need to share with Wisdom for this relationship to work.

Educate your emotions. Bring them in harmony with God's feelings.
When you catch yourself being puffed up with pride by the enemy, declare- "I hate pride and arrogance!"
When you are being tempted toward sinful actions, including lust and porn, declare, "I hate evil behavior!"
When you are tempted to use foul language, declare, "I hate perverse speech!"

Are you struggling with pornography? Several of you admitted struggling with it presently or in the past. We are warriors and need to fight this onslaught together (James 5:16). So please indicate with a simple Yes or No, if you would want to be a part of a special forces team to battle and conquer pornography in your life. There will be no group meetings. But you will become a highly trained fighting force. An honest desire for help is the first step. No shame, just grace.

Announcements!
"Act like men" 1 Cor.16:13. Pastor James McDonald has written a book by that title and hosts conferences by that name. He says that the foundation of acting like men is keeping your word. I agree because God's word stresses this so much. Sadly, a young man whom I have known for over a year and recruited into M3 stopped keeping his word. He didn't blog at all last week and also didn't return several phone calls and texts from me and others. I never guilted him in my messages, but was always upbeat and positive and had even invited him over. Yet nothing. It hurt to be so disrespected when I and others have only sought to help him. So I returned his application in which he had given his word to be in God's word daily with us and to promptly return calls. I don't share this to shame him, but to simply let you know that we are here to help men act like men. Similarly, we don't raise boys to be responsible young men by letting them be irresponsible. If you ever believe that God no longer wants you to be in M3, simply keep you word and call. I will always treat you with friendship when I see you. And if you ever have any questions regarding my leadership in this or other matters, I welcome your call. Thank you for acting like the manly men you are.

I now want to salute those of you who were Unstoppable this past week, and most all of you were. What a joy! Next week I will list each and every one of your names. Remember to blog before the 3:00am cut off to qualify. If an emergency comes up with your internet connection or such, please call me that day regarding it. Thanks!

I also want to honor those of you who scored 25 points or more last week by your encouraging and sharing. Bueno- Israel-26; Dave H.-28; Antonio-28; Vince-32; Andre-33; Guillermo-37; and Ismael-42!

I especially want to honor those who scored over 50 points last week by encouraging and sharing with so many! You are setting such a great example and building up so many! Way to go- Jack-67; Sam-72; Phil-78; Eddie-82; and Robert-106! Wow!

The most important thing a young person could do is to seek after God and the wisdom that only He can provide. As we read in this passage blessings come to those who listen to the Word of God and do so on a daily basis.
Having put my trust in Christ at an early age and attending church ever since I can remember allowed me fill my life with good counsel and godly examples that I could follow, which in turn kept me away from many other paths that a young person may follow when they do not have Christ in their life.
This does not exempt me from the possibility of falling but rather helps me realize that my flesh is weak and that I need Christ in my life every day otherwise I fall. I am so thankful for being part of M3 because lifting each other up in prayer and encouraging each other surely helps as we try to live a life that is honoring to God.

  3. 1.One of the hardest things is to pay attention and learn when wise instruction is given. If we have a teachable posture, an open and willing heart to learn, then we can receive wisdom, a saving knowledge. Christ is Wisdom and we need to turn to Him to understand how to live. So seek Him, early and often, intentionally, with a full hearted effort, before anything else. His words will guide us to the right paths.

  4. I have shared my testimony with many men (young & old). I have been honest with past struggles and the devastation in causes. I thank God that that I have avoided generational cycles by being obedient to His word. In order to encourage them, I have told them that it is about trying to follow Jesus. Even though will never be holy like him, it should stop us from following the narrow path. I tell them that I am not sinless but I do sin less. It is a continued effort. I tell them it took some time to overcome issues. Don't expect results overnight with some issues. I tell them to never give up, to always seek God. Even if it is not with Newlife. To draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.

Even to our M3 brothers who have the courage to share when they have faltered, it is great advice. We won't win evey battle, but if we persist and we carry into battle with us the Word of God, our great ally and Savior has already won the war and we will share in His glory.

Once the Lord presents himself to you, take advantage of what he teaches you and your life will become full and complete. Your journey is fulfilling and your past issues will disappear - charge forward always following His advise and feel his Love always-- so that you can impact the lives of others always to enhance the Kingdom of God. Internally I floundered on an endless pursuit of happiness-- that I could not find. I found the Joy of Jesus and others once I openened my heart to he who fills me with Joy. Jesus!

  10. 1. Before i pursued God and wisdom, my life was a mess. I had a void in my soul that needed to be filled and i never felt like i fit in anywhere. I tried to fill the void with drugs and women, and i tried to fit in with gang-bangers and druggies. I was a lyer, cheater, and thief. The wisdom i thought i had led me to Cook County Jail 8 times.

It wasn't until i surrendered my life to Christ and began searching for His wisdom that i started filling that void. As i noticed my life getting better i became more eager to learn about God and follow his ways. Every time i gave up one of my bad habits i was rewarded for it. When i gave up drugs i was blessed with a life worth living. When i gave up stealing i was given a job. When i stopped being a cheater He blessed me with a wife. When I quit smoking cigarettes, i was able to focus on my health and get into great shape. When i gave up swearing, i was blessed with some serenity. GOD WILL REWARD US FOR FOLLOWING HIS WISDOM!!!! And now my next mission is to give up porn. I know He will bless me even more When i do this. I got to be honest guys, today is day 1 for me again. 1. Great advice, Mike. It bothers me even to see people speak harshly to other drivers on the road or their waiter at a restaurant when their ordr isn't right. Would we do the same to our own flesh and blood? You raise a good point that they, too, are our brothers and sisters. Wisdom begins with how we treat ourselves, but it extends from us into how we treat others. If we are to be reflections of God's love, we should reflect this love onto all, family or stranger, friend or foe.

  12. 1. My son, God has blessed me with a rich and full life, but in my youth I was foolish and spurned wisdom. Much did I suffer for my foolishness, and little did I gain for all my sweat and toil. In all that you do, act prudently. Do not be rash, quick to anger or pass judgement., as I too often did. You, too, will make mistakes; be quick to forgive those who error against you, but do not tolerate the company of fools who do not learn from their mistakes. Fools seek only company for their foolish ways, but the road they travel leads to death. Hate all that is evil, for to do so is to fear the Lord, our God. Do not be proud or arrogant, as I have been. Humble yourself, always, for no great triumph flows from you but through you by the grace of God, which is bestowed upon those who do His will. Love wisdom; court her with my blessing and devote yourself to a lifetime by her side. Seek her, and you will find her. Find her, and you will be blessed with a far richer inheritance than I could ever leave you; you will receive favor from the Lord. I pass this wisdom onto you, which I found only after great hardship, that you may lead a better life than I have and avoid the mistakes that I have made along the way.

  15. 1 God’s Word speaks about true wisdom, which is different from what the world might call “wisdom”. The world tells us to hunger for silver, gold and rubies and put these as our first priority; but true wisdom is more desirable than those. True wisdom leads to prudence, knowledge and discretion. It also teaches against pride, arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. All of this is founded on the fear of the LORD. One effect of having wisdom is obtaining “enduring wealth and prosperity”. This may occur in this life, but will certainly be given in heaven.

As a Christian, I have not always followed and pursued wisdom. When I chased after the worldly wisdom of what was considered success and financially independence, I found that I was preyed upon, by those that offered empty promises. In time I realized that I had lost my way and was wasting my life on vain, meaningless and empty pursuits. I turned back to heeding the truths in Scripture. I saw how it's wisdom was now more precious to me then all the wealth I had chased after and desired. My eyes were open to what God valued (what was eternal) as opposed to the vanity of the temporary. I have turned my heart to desire what I have learned that God is passionate about. And in doing so, I am finding His power, strength and wisdom to make my life count for eternity.
