Mon.12.1.14... One Power Tool to Really Build Up Yourself and your Proteges

First of all, let me welcome you to M3! I'm so glad you're here with us. This is going to be a great time of growing together. Always feel free to call me (708-543-6544) if there is any way I can help you, especially as we get started.

So let's start off talking about power tools. Power tools are great things we men love to use. Not only do we like having that power in our hands, they can also get so much done faster than we could ever do so on our own. For example they enable us to build such things as a house. (Did I ever tell you about the time I was in a building trades class in high school? We built a house! Confession- I kept the foreman busy.) The power tool that God has given us to build up others is His word. Paul said, “Now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace which can build you up…”Acts 20:32

It would be a very slow, laborious process to try and build up our protégés if they were solely dependent on us to give them the word. God wants people to get into His word on their own. That’s why Paul said, I commend you to God and the word of His grace.

When I came to New Life as a missionary associate pastor in 1988, the church was still called Berean Memorial Baptist Church. Mark said the word “Memorial” sounded like a funeral home and most people didn’t have a clue why “Berean” was in the name. But why Berean? (Berea was a town Paul evangelized after leaving the riotous Thessalonians who drove him out.) “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true” Acts 17:11. So to call a church people “Bereans” is to give a very high compliment- that they daily dig into the Scriptures. If we want to build up strong multiplying men, we need to get them into the word of God daily. (The following verses also speak of people meeting daily for God's word- Acts 19:9; Psalm.1:1-3 and Prov.8:33-34.)

We want to help men grow up strong in their salvation. Daily feedings on it can do just that. Peter writes, “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good” 1 Peter 2:2-3. And it’s as we get into God’s word that we also taste more and more of God’s goodness. And that stimulates the appetite all the more. So read daily, focusing on the goodness of the Lord. That’s what we will be doing together in the word.

Please click below where it says "Add a Comment" and share your responses to the following 2 questions.

1.-God is not a legalist, so why do you think He wants us to be daily in his word?

2.-God’s word actually has a lot to say about God’s word. For example the longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119 and almost every single verse is about the word of God. As you dig in you will taste and see that the Lord is good. So thumb through its 176 verses and write out a verse or phrase that you especially like.

If you have wanted to be faithful to meet with God daily in his word, that longing is now being fulfilled for you. Just bring your desire and we will help you attain such. Come here anytime tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, have you ever been frustrated with quickly forgetting what you read in God's word? Tomorrow, you'll discover the tool to defeat the giant eraser machine.

PS- In two days, you'll see your name on our GREAT Scoreboard and the points you put up on the board for our team for responding to the blog today.
Thanks Champ!

    2. Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.

As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭1-2, 7, 11‬ NLT)

    2. 1. God wants us to be daily in the Word, because as the Master Creator: 1) He knows very well all our weaknesses and frailties and 2) He also knows exactly what is best, and what we need most to be spiritually healthy, vibrant and strong.

      2. One of the phrases from Pslams 119 that leaves a deeper impression on my spirit are from verses 36 & 37 > Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes from worthless things;

  2. 1- I don't think it's to make us holy in the way a legalist would care for. I believe, in a way, it's to get us more inclined to hearing HIS HEART. We get in the word and God does the rest. We can't make ourselves holy
2-Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law.

  3. 1. God's Word is one of the primary ways He speaks to us. He wants to have that constant communication and communion with us. When we spend time in the word we have the privilege to get to know God's heart, character, attributes, personality more. Just like any type of friendship or relationship you want to get to know the person. As you get to know them you can build that trust with them, rely on them, be committed to them. I think like a Father, Friend, Savior, God wants to instruct us, guide us, spend time with us and love us, encourage us, and He is able to do that by His word.
    2. Psalm 119: 15, 32, 37
"fix my eyes on your ways", "I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart," "turn my eyes from looking at worthless things and give me life in your ways."

Something about fixing our eyes on something. Allowing ourselves to have our attention set completely on God's ways, concentrated fully on them as we go about our days and lives. When we have the goal in mind, the vision is clear and the decisions we make can reflect that.

  4. I believe the daily engagement with God in His word is firs like a conversation with a person. The more we have conversation is the greater that we can not only be in in mentorship from Christ but to mirror His own self. Also daily involvement into the word is very similar to the practicing of our craft our Gift. Using your example to build with power tools we are much more benefited having the training and knowledgebase to handle such a tool.

    2. PS 119:66
“Teach me knowledge and good judgment. For I trust your commands”
This is very memorable for me because of the proverb that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” and that any understanding and any righteousness comes from God.

  5. God wants us to keep in his word so that we constantly feel his presence and always look to him for his will and guidance. To keep our focus on him 1st, as we are encouraged in order for us to encourage others. To always know righteousness as we follow Jesus. To help us build our mature character and be caring, and contribute always to his Kingdom.

"I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands" PS 119:10
" Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law" PS 119:18

  6. 1.- I believe God wants us to read His word daily so that be can get to know Him better and fully experience His love and power. This way we will be better prepared to face daily trials and temptations and be triumphant. Also with knowledge of His word we will be equipped to reach others for Him in an effective way.
    2.- Psalms 119:34
Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.

  8. 1. God wants us to be daily in his word to guide me in this life, direct me on the decisions that confront me, protect me from all malice, strengthen me in my weakness. Most importantly to know that God is good, that His word is better than silver and gold. To know every time in seeking His all infinite wisdom, I will receive something new and different.

    2.Psalm 119:72 NIV

The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.

  9. 1. I still vividly remember, back in 2002 when I was in my second year of real estate working for Remax in a South Loop Office for a Broker named Frank. I was working on many "Pending condo files" on homes that were under contract, gearing toward Closing. I had so many problems with so many of these files and deals were falling apart. Then one day, Frank, called me to his office and told me to bring all my files with me and give him an account or status of these deals. As I was telling him about my 3rd file, he told me to "STOP" and he gave me a tongue lashing, as to how foolish I was being in trying to handle every problem with these files by myself, when his office was only 20 feet away from his desk. He was very upset with me! I kid you not, over the next 2 hours, he made calls and helped me resolve all my major problems with all the files. What took me literally weeks and hours of calls and emails and appointments to try to close these deals, he helped me in 2 hours. To this day, I still remember that "Golden Nugget" -- to ask a higher authority for help and their wisdom. God used that lesson many times, to tell me, "why i am trying to do everything by myself and screwing up things without consulting and asking Him for His wisdom and written Word. God is literally with me 100% of the time, and He is the ultimate Authority on everything! It is "FOOLISH when we do not take time to read God's written word of instruction and take time to ask for divine wisdom.

    2. Psalm 119:46 "I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame." and also verse 170 "Let my plea come before You, deliver me according to Your word."
