Fri.5.29.15...Prov.16:1-15...Great Plans

It took an incredible amount of planning and included many failed attempts. But on this day, May 29th, 1953, all those plans paid off. Two men, Sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay stood where none had ever stood before- on the top of Mt.Everest (29,029 feet above sea level).

As M. Dunham wrote, "Sir Edmund Hilary was the first person to conquer Mt. Everest. The first time he tried, he failed. He was knighted by the Queen of England, and at the gala occasion, on the wall behind the head table, was a huge picture of Mt. Everest. The people gave him a standing ovation for even daring to attempt the climb. When they ceased applauding, Hilary turned his back to the audience, faced that picture and said, "Mt. Everest, you have defeated me once and you might defeat me again. But I'm coming back again and again, and I'm going to win because you can't get any bigger, Mt. Everest, and I can."

I love that story! It illustrates such determination and diligence. But to accomplish such, plans had to be made to grow bigger than the mountain. For as Sir Edmond Hilary declared, “It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” What do you need to conquer in your life? Where do you want to go in life? Sometimes for young people this can be a mountain sized question in and of itself. "Where do I want to go in life?" As a young person, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life? It was easier to plan my trip to climb mountains in the Rockies, which I did right after graduating from high school, than to make plans for my life. But the advice I would give to young people, and older adults as well, is to make plans to grow bigger spiritually. Work out spiritually. Why? No matter what job you land or marriage and family you have, you will need to grow spiritually, to develop spiritual strength. The training in God’s gym will be incredibly rewarding. “Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” 1 Tim.4:7b-8.

Have you noticed how men who are serious about getting in shape have a well shaped plan that they follow? They even keep written track of their progress. “How much did I bench press today versus last time?” “Am I following the plans my trainer gave me?” Tragically, most Christians don’t have any such plans to grow spiritually. Yet they are commanded to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 3:18. But you do have a plan and you are growing. Everyday M-F you are in God’s gym, growing in God’s word and sharing it with others. Every day you are encouraging one another. (Strange how so many Christians don’t work out this muscle of encouragement, when our Trainer has commanded, “encourage one another daily.” Our Trainer knows what’s best for the Body.) And everyday you are diligently keeping track of your progress on the GREAT scoreboard "so that everyone may see your progress" 1 Tim.4:15. You have a work out plan and then you work out that plan. Way to grow!

So many men are living at the bottom of the mountain. They need a plan to get to the top and they need someone who knows how to get there to invite them and help them. Thanks for reaching out to men and inviting them to join you on a very manly climb. (If you're at Midway, see me Sunday at the front for M3 cards.) They will never make it to the top alone because God’s plan requires a team, not solo climbers. I know some very intellectual Christians who are solo acts. They think they are on track, but they are missing the mountain by a mile. The Lord calls us to build up each other as a body and to work together as a team to forcefully advance God's kingdom (Mt.11:12). We are to be like a football team forcefully advancing the ball down the field. We need to follow God's plans to grow and conquer the mountain. No one makes it to the top alone, not even Sir Edmond Hillary.

Read Proverbs 16:1-15 and you’ll note the issue of making plans is mentioned three different times. Good plans don’t demand perfection, but they help you make progress. I'd say most of you are making very good progress.

1.-Some of you have been in M3 since we started 6 months ago with a few joining a bit later. Several more of you joined about three months ago. So this is a good time to have a 3 to 6 month mountain climbing evaluation. No matter when you joined, has the M3 plan for spiritual growth been helping you do just that? If so, share one or two things that you like from your time in M3. (Then keep that in mind to share with other men when you talk with them.) If you wish, please share how M3 or you could be better? (Evaluation for improvement is the practice of champions.)

2.-Share one verse or phrase that impressed you from our reading in Prov.16:1-15. Then be on the lookout to share it with others.

You are reaching out and it shows; we continue to grow bigger. But we need to make sure that we continue to cover each other and that no man is left behind. I’m thankful for how so many of you have been reaching out to others, and for our Fire Team Captains- Jack, Eddie, Robert, Sam and George. They have been encouraging a lot of people as the scoreboard shows. They will be focusing more of their encouragement on you who are in their fire teams. But of course it’s not all on them. Seek to pray for and often encourage your fellow fire team members. If one of them should go MIA, make sure you contact him. This is your band of brothers. You are your brother’s keeper (keeper: bodyguard, Gen.4:9). As we grow, we will need more Fire Team Captains, so we will be looking for men who are good examples and encouragers to become Captains in Training. This will be easy to see on the Scoreboard, so please keep working out in these GREAT areas for spiritual growth and impact. We need you to be strong. A team and a chain are only as strong as their weakest link. So be strong in the Lord!

3.-“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love”  Rom.12:10. This is a vital part of God's plan for us. Will you be devoted to your band of brothers in your fire team, pray for and encourage them and contact any that may be MIA on the blog?

Your fire team members are like your fellow mountain climbers. You only succeed by growing and climbing together.

Perhaps you've already created a "Fire Team" contacts list in your phone. That's a smart thing to do with your smart phone. Reviewing that list often is a good way to remember to pray for them too as you have down time.

Announcements
I want to warmly welcome our newest team mate, William Dyckman (yes, big brother of Alex:). I got to know William over 10 years ago when he was helping his father teach a boys Sunday school class, so we go back a bit. William was also in NGLs with me last year. He got married just a few weeks ago to Nori who was also in the NGL group. What a great couple! Please warmly welcome William! And thank you Eddie for also reaching out to Will. Very good!

Hey, check out the updated look of our M3 Family Tree. Click the tab at the bottom of our Scoreboard. You'll see new info and color coding, similar to different degrees or colors of belts in Martial Arts. For each man you recruit, you move up to a darker colored belt. And remember, to graduate from Basic Training, you just need to recruit one person and earn your Unstoppable Award Pin.

Speaking of Award Pins, we will be having our next M3 meeting, Sunday June 14th at 11:30 in the break room again. (The accommodations are not quite as nice as Jack's, but there are vending machines:) I look forward to awarding several of you with Unstoppable pins that you've earned for being unstoppable with us on the blog for 4 weeks in a row. There are other honors and important info we will be covering as well, so please guard that hour. Thanks!

You are a great group of faithful men! If Guillermo or Ed Lake is in your fire team, please give an encouraging word as we missed them on the blog yesterday.

I also like how consistently dedicated we are all becoming at constantly growing in God's word and following his calling to lead others to the Kingdom of God! It is great how Dave is strategically guiding us and educating us through the Bible and preparing us to advance the Kingdom

Something I have to work on in m3 is encourage others more often. I also need to start recruiting brothers to m3.

  4. 1. It's a great training environment. To go to Dave's point in today's blog about working out. For a long time I worked out without a workout partner, a spotter, someone to push me and encourage me to grow and get stronger. I have been recently been working out with a few new partners and I come away from the workout feeling tired and beat, but it's good because I worked out hard. But I worked out hard because I had someone encouraging me to do one more. I feel that it's very similar to what's happened in M3. The encouragement has allowed me to grow and do one more. I thank you guys for your insights, advices, prayers and daily encouragement.

  5. 1. M3 has definitely helped me grow spiritually. I was looking for a group of men to help me stay on track. My divorce was final March 12th. Going through a storm you need others to encourage you. I've gotten that through m3 and other brothers in the Lord. M3 has also help me spend more time in God's Word.

  6. 1. My family is good friends with one of our neighbors. We were at her house recently and she had some tough questions regarding God. She is still young in her walk. She lost her dad (72yrs) about 6 months ago to a rare cancer. She is still very hurt and cries from time to time. I was blessed to have shared that God healed him. That God empathizes and weeps with us. I told her that we are with her and hugged her. I told her that God has plans that are greater than ours. I thank Dave and my M3 brothers for strengthening/sharpening in the word. God bless you all.

  8. 1. M3 has helped me grow closer to my band of brothers in Christ, though I may not have personally met some or see them on a regular basis. "For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is." Colossians 2:5

I like that we can use the resources and technology available to meet on a regular basis (day or night) and also enjoy reading the insights, thoughts and testimonies posted.

As for improvement there's a delicate balance we should strive to keep, otherwise we can inadvertently tip the scales in the opposite direction and do more harm than good. Having said that, I acknowledge M3 is not for everyone but some have expressed being overwhelmed at times by the demands of everyday life and their obligation to follow their contractual agreement with M3 and they can, or have perceived the number of inquiries when they're M.I.A. as overbearing. At this time, I don't have any suggestions on how to resolve this, I'm simply sharing what has been expressed.

    1. Thanks Robert! Yes, life is busy and hectic. I will always grace, not guilt people if they are MIA or choose to drop out of M3. I do think this is a great opportunity to re-evaluate priorities. How much TV did I watch? Is the time I am investing in reading and sharing God's word worth the time it takes? If not, then, you are right, M3 is not for that guy. But from all that I've heard from the men, it is helping them a lot. It's been great reading stories recently of what men went through to attain a goal. It's also great to see men making the effort to seek first God's kingdom in this way. They are proving themselves unstoppable. I'm glad there is at least one thing that I can do that requires some sacrifice of love for my Savior. The impact is certainly worth it. Anyone is always free to call me directly. Encourage them to do that. Thanks!

  10. 1. M3 reminds me of some online classes I took in college. They are very helpful in our walk. Last year I made an oath that I would read a few chapters of the bible a day. I have read them about 90% of the time. Everyday I would read and some scripture would get me curious and I could not stop, other times It would drag on and I would have no understanding. M3 is focused on a few versus and by reading different point of views from different brothers gives me a better understanding. I'm realizing that I am not the only one that struggles. You guys are a blessing! I pray that I get the full benefit and understanding of my daily verses. Thank you David for leading a wonderful group of Godly men. Participation is mandatory for growth. 12. I love the connection we as brothers in Christ have in M3. M3 stands for encouragement, comfort, fellowship, and compassion for each other. That's how I view it because of this verse: Philippians 2:1-2
    New Living Translation (NLT)
    Have the Attitude of Christ
2 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

That's what we are, M3, committed and we will succeed in Christ Jesus.

  17. I enjoy making time in my otherwise hectic day to pause and reflect on the Word. This is a time of profound peace and serenity, no matter how stressful my day may have been. In these moments, I feel the presence of the Lord. I feel His arm around my tired shoulders, encouraging me with His presence. Before M3, I rarely made this time for communion with my Father. Like a son who never calls home, I felt empty and disconnected from the world. I might as well have been on a different planet, I sometimes felt so alone. Now, I genuinely feel like I have come home. My Father standing at the threshold, arms wide open welcomes me home. He takes my bags from my hands. Inside, my brothers sit at the table of the feast prepared for us each day. We pass the evening speaking of our travels, sharing the wisdom we have gained from our failures and our triumphs, and listening to our Father's wisdom.

This is what M3 has come to represent in my life: home and family, two things I have not had in my life for many years since I came to Chicago. I feel so blessed that Vince found me at the right place, at the right time in my life to point me home. Thank you, brother. I am also grateful for all my other M3 brothers and for the wisdom they have shared. We are a mighty warrior nation, and I feel my spiritual strength growing each day.

Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." Lord, I trust your divine plan for my life, mand I commit myself to walk the path you lay out before me, wherever it may lead me, without questions and without fear, for you are with me. You can see the end of my road; You know what lies ahead. What need have I to know what tomorrow holds when it is You who carries me there.

I will pray for my brothers, and care for them as I do for myself, for we are as one body in Christ. I will leave none behind, for I will be accountable for all on the last day,

  18. 1) Likes: I love Dave G's lessons and insight into the Word of God. I've shared some aspects of the lessons with my family and the kids I teach on Sundays. I like and need the consistency of feeding on God's Word daily. I like having godly men to share with. I like encouraging others and the encouragement I receive.
Challenges: Time management. I'm sure like many, I just don't have the time to do all the encouraging I would like to. Also with so many new warriors joining M3, I don't have enough time to go through everyone's posts. But it's a great way to get to know the guys. I often have ministry commitments on Sundays that I barely have time to focus on. I'm not so focused on reaching out to men when I'm at church on Sunday.

Plans: Focus on the posts of my Fire Team one week. Then mix it up and focus on another fire team each week. Also try to encourage each guy on that team once that week. Aim to give out one M3 invite card to a man I look to meet with on Sunday.

    2) Proverbs 16:3 – Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. When we seek the Lords, wisdom, favor and blessings on our plans, its like rolling over our concerns upon Him and trusting that He will work out the best outcome.

    2) 16:2 All a man's ways seem right to him, but the LORD evaluates the motives.
It seems we need our own approval in order to have peace with the actions we take but since we are able to deceive ourselves, the clearance of our conscience is not enough. The Father see's our motives, the often secret why's that drive our actions.

  22. Thank you Dave for the warm welcome to the program, and for the honor of your invitation to join such a esteemed group of Spiritual Giants. Beginning a new life as a married man recently had brought a hectic schedule and responsibilities, but I am excited to settle in with you all!

    1) I am of course brand new to M3, however, I have heard only the greatest things about the work our Lord Jesus Christ is doing in this group of Men. As my first day begins, I can't wait to be like the man in Proverbs 9 that grows in wisdom, learning and righteousness.

    2) The verse that grabbed my attention in today's reading would have to be:

Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."

I have personally seen the faithfulness of the Lord in this area within my own life. When I first started walking in earnest with God, I didn't have a clue what I was "supposed" to do next.

How should I live out my faith?
What did God want of me on a regular day?
Where did He want me to serve?

Questions like these always flowed through my heart as I would walk to work in the morning, but I never had an answer to them. Soon, I realized that I had to simply let God do what He pleased in me. He would get me where He wanted me, with no interference from me necessary! I gave Him my day, ministry, life, future, to set the plans as HE saw fit, and I later on seen Him do amazing things in me and through me. Had I relied on my own ideas and plans, I would not be here now. The Lord establishes these things in us when we trust in Him.

    3) I am blessed to be on such an awesome Fire Team and as I start the program I pray to be an encouragement in my brother's lives the way man of them are already an encouragement and blessing in mine.

Blessings this weekend to you Brother's in the Race! Let's go Mountain Climbing! ;)

  24. 1. I like recording verses for M3. I'm then able to have some good ones available to share with others when I'm talking to them. M3 is also getting me to be more intentional about encouraging or sharing stuff with others on a regular basis. It also is getting me in the habit of reading the Bible daily..

    2. Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."

  25. 1.- At times brothers I have reservations if I'm M3 material enough, I struggle in my writing and expressing what I want to say, I feel intimidated to be in the company of such knowledgeable and gifted brothers. I pray I conquer my fears of inadequacies and continue to grow and become a better contributor in encouraging more in my blogging and uphold my commitment to God and my brothers in Christ of M3. 2.- Prov.16:8 "Better a little with righteousness that much gain with injustice." 3.- Yes, I have much work, to work on for improvement.

    1. Don't feel intimidated, Armando! I have trouble expressing myself in my writing too. Anyway, it is important to remember that God has given you all that you need, so don't let fears bring you down. You definitely belong here! :) By the way, good verse choice.

    2. Moses was far more qualified than any of us, but he doubted his abilities. But it's not our abilities, it's our availability. And in terms of abilities, the greatest ability in this group is dependability. That is what God is looking for and that is what we commend. Armando, you are already unstoppable. You have what it takes, so don't spend much time being down on your inadequacies. I have to fight off those feeling too at times. Do not give the devil the satisfaction of being down on yourself.

    3. Armando, I’m glad you’re part of M3. I struggle sometimes too, when I do I step away for a few minutes to say a prayer asking God to help me. It also makes it easier when I remember the men of M3 aren’t here to judge me.

    4. Brother Armando, I love your humbleness and dependency upon God! Please remember who you are in Christ, you are more than a Conqueror in Him! Stick with this group my brother and NEVER give up. Remember, birds of a feather do flock together. We need to be around spiritual giants in our lives and in our families lives as well :)

    5. Brother Armando, we learn and grow together and I'm extremely proud of your efforts despite your concerns. God enables us to press on.

  26. Sorry I’m late in posting for Friday’s blog.
1 – M3 has helped me grow closer to Christ. I like how I’m getting to know so many faithful people through their posts. I also like the daily blog, I started to read the Bible in the past but I didn’t get very far on my own. Not only does M3 lay out the plan for what to read it makes me think more by reading everyone else’s comments. I also appreciate how Dave G calls to make sure I’m OK if I miss a day on the blog. :)

2 – Proverbs 16:2 People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. This verse makes me think how people will try to justify their actions even though they are wrong. Like someone stealing from an employer because they think they are under paid.

    2. awesome Oscar.. Your "Personally like growing and advancing God’s kingdom. Amen and Amen." That is powerful in the spiritual realm, because you and I both know that we will meet demonic resistance in an increasing measure, as we plan to advance the Kingdom of God! We need to be covered in prayer and full of the Spirit. I am marching along side you brother, I truly mean that!!

  28. 1. Since day 1, I love being around MANYLY MEN who know that we are really in a spiritual battle, that we can never Win Without the Holy Spirit and other brothers fighting for God's truth and praying for each other. But one thing I do know, that when God is with you, who can stand against you??

I love Dave G's lessons and insight into the Word of God on a daily basis. This M3 group works very well with my other daily bible reading plan (Thru the bible in one year) mixed in with other ministries and men's bible study. I like having godly men to share with and now getting to Grow in Christ with. I know from the bottom of my heart, that if we men at M3 continue to stay faithful and dependent on God, He will use this group in UNSTOPPABLE WAYS!! Ephesians 3:20 says, "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

Challenges: Time management. - like many of you, I just don't have the time to do all the encouraging I would like to, on the blog. I try to encourage others and talk about the Lord at work all the time :) Reading the blog posts is a great way to get to know the guys in M3.

    2. Proverbs 16:7 says, "When a man's ways please the Lord, He causes their enemies to be at peace with them." -- This is a very powerful passage, especially in a time when the world is becoming more and more antagonistic against Christians.

  29. From our first meeting of M3 setting out what "M3" is about, putting forth the purpose of what God has given our brother Dave on M3, to individually committing on reading our daily word I knew it was going to be worth wild. Through M3 , it has given me the tools to either look (observe) on what I'm reading about, further more as an investigator but also knowing how to apply the Word into my life. M3 has helped me to be more relational with God, what I mean by that for ex: I would come home from work or doing regular means of life, get into the word and go to sleep. We'll after I'm done reading now I would pray outwardly, this has helped me significantly because there are certain things I didn't know I worried about, cared about or even thought of but God always knows since He weighs the heart of one. Through this, gradually my wife and I have started to pray together in which we didn't do at first. It has been said through anonymous..." the type of relationship you have with your wife, determines the type of relationship you have with Christ." (Forgive me if that is not right or correct). Last but not least my M3 band of brothers, you guys have and continue to be a big part of my life from encouraging each other, praying for each other, mentoring each other to even learning from you guys how to be better with my writing skills.. sorry Dave, I know that was more than two things :). Phileo brothers

Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
    One of my favorites

    Indeed of will encourage.

  30. I wanna apologize to everyone for being MIA I had lost my phone 2 days ago but now I have to play catch up again. No excuses and thank you all that sent me a text message

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1- Good morning to all, so once again playing catch up due to losing my phone but as I continue pursuing happiness I want to thank the M3 group for showing the support. I have learned a lot in about 3 months that I have been associated. I wish I had more time on my hands to do all that I want to do. If there was only 3 more hours in a day I would be active a lot better but God will make the time for me to continue moving up. I get overwhelmed at times and it gets frustrating but M3 and everyone on here and including Robert on a personal basis have helped me with my marriage and my every day walk with God. I love my wife and have been a jerk with her, but I have been learning to listen follow direction and apply the practice.
    2- Proverbs 16:3

Commit to the Lord whatever you do,and he will establish your plans. I have committed and I will keep moving forward.

3- I will continue trying to be devoted and contacting those that are MIA .
