Fri.2.13.15...Being a Godly MENTOR...Encourage part 10

Today marks the end of our study on Encouragement. We’ve focused a lot on it, because God’s word focuses a lot on it. We are to be MANLY men of courage, so we need ongoing encouragement, just as we need ongoing food. Are you being encouraged in M3? More than what you were getting before joining? There’s no other group I’d rather be a part of. (If you know of a more encouraging and MANLY group, let me know and we’ll all join it!:) Tragically, David didn’t have such an encouraging band of brothers. “All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him and he became there leader. About 400 men were with him.” 1 Sam.22:2. Those are not what I would call coach quality men. It doesn’t take much for discontented men to become discontented with you. Good and godly men will fight with you to the death. Discontented men will turn against you. A few years later, that’s exactly what happened to David. By this time 800 men had joined him and were now going out on raids with him against Israel’s enemies. But read what happened in 1 Sam.30:1-7.

With “friends” like that who needs enemies! Years earlier when David was very discouraged, his devoted friend Jonathan “helped him find strength in God.” 1 Sam.23:16. But now David didn’t have such an encouraging friend. He had to “find strength in the Lord his God” on his own. By God’s grace, so long as you are in M3 that will never have to happen to you. Just let us know when you’re going through a battle against the demon of discouragement and you will have warriors fighting for you and encouraging you. We will strive to be like Jonathan who helped David find strength in God.

But how do you help people find strength in God? It’s about helping people who are hanging their heads in discouragement to lift up their eyes to God. “I lift up my eyes to the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord,  the Maker of heaven and earth.” Ps.121:1-2. When we can help people focus on the greatness and faithfulness of God, they will find strength and encouragement in the Lord. This could be done by pointing to God’s power- He’s the maker of heaven and earth. Or you could point out God’s work in their lives and in the lives of those in scripture. But perhaps best of all, point them to God himself- his names and attributes. So let’s use that wonderful website that listed 900 different names and attributes of God. http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/namesofgod.html

G.a- Pick one of those from the list and write it on your MP3 card and what you like about it on the blog. (Please remember to share with anyone you wish the riches on your MP3 card. You are now being credited for this. Jesus said that he that practices and teaches (shares) such things would be called GREAT in the kingdom of heaven. Mt.5:19. We are striving to help men be GREAT in God's eyes. Share!

G.b- Take that name or attribute you picked and use it to write a brief prayer of encouragement directly underneath the comments of a brother who commented above you. (Just click Reply immediately under his words.)

Why not send that excellent prayer of encouragement to one or more of your teammates or prospective proteges today?

G.c- How many individuals or groups did you share the riches of your MP3 card with since you posted yesterday?

R?

E?

A?

(To make it easier for Dave and Roger when they start keeping track of scoring, let's make a uniform way of reporting. Please always list down the page our GREAT acronym and then put your numbers up. For example, it might look like this-
G.c- 2 (for 2 people I shared the riches from my MP3 or blog experience. These can be even strangers)
R- N (for No, I didn't have to right any wrongs with anyone. What a nice change of pace:)
E- 3 (for 3 team mates or prospective proteges that I contacted to encourage.)
A- Y (for Yes, I did Attack the gates of hell to liberate and activate others to be Power HOUSE men)

  1. G. A. Isaiah 66:13 NIV
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”
I like the fact that God is a God of comfort. Jesus went through many sufferance, so he is someone that can sympathize with our sufferings. The Word says that the" Word became flesh." Referring to Jesus.so when we go true suffering in this world, we are able to comfort others.
    G. B. David I thank The God of comfort for you.
By reading God's Word we all get to know the God of comfort. And his word helps us get through the storms of life.thank you for all the work you do by putting this blog together. By doing this many will receive comfort through the study of God's Word.

  2. G.a- KING OF ALL THE EARTH. To me it is very comforting to know that despite everything that is going on in the world with wars and persecution of Christians, God is still in control and that He continues to have a redemptive plan for His people. What a great honor to be part of that plan as we purposefully seek to share the Good News of Jesus with a world that desperately needs a Savior and true King.

    1. May the Lord our God surround you today Roger. For no matter what you are going through you can find your confidence and strength in Him. In troubling and testing times may you seek the House of Defense, your God, so that your faith will stabilize and that you can trust in Him fully and press on confidently unto victory. Be blessed and encouraged.

  4. Ga. I found 321. House of Defense as an interesting name for God. I particularly liked how today's scripture talked about how "David found strength in the Lord his God." But in a troubling time, surrounded by all those bitter men, who at that point wanted to kill him, how did David find his strength in God. He cried out to God in his brokenness. In my studies and reading commentary, it says that Pslams 25 May be closely related to how David was feeling at the time. Verses 16 & 17 for example, "turn to me and be gracious to me for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish." It was by David's communion with God, through prayer, where he was able to stabilize his confidence and build his faith.

I wanted to share yet another thought from Max Lucado

    We Can Fear Less
In Luke 24:38, Jesus asks, “Why are you frightened? Why are your hearts filled with doubt?” Jesus doesn’t want you to live in a state of fear. Nor do you. You’ve never made statements like these: Thank God for my pessimism. I’ve been such a better person since I lost hope. Or, My doctor says if I don’t begin fretting, I’ll lose my health. We’ve learned the high cost of fear. If we medicate fear with angry outbursts, drinking binges, sullen withdrawals, or vise like control, we exclude God from the solution and exacerbate the problem.Hysteria isn't from God. Scripture says, “God has not given us the spirit of fear” (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear may fill our world, but it doesn't have to fill our hearts. It will always knock on the door. Just don’t invite it in.

The promise of Christ is simple: we can fear less tomorrow than we do today! Amen

A great verse. This verse is so true I can't do anything without GOD being a part of it. I've learn to pray about it first or in other words to put GOD first in all I do. I pray that all men in M3 remain in Christ or the VINE so can produce much fruit.
