Fri.2.20.15 Being a Godly MENTOR...Train part 2

Yesterday, we began to look at the vital importance of T = Training protégés to be powerful soldiers. Sadly, if men receive little training, they will be casualties of war. They would be like untrained children going off to war. Did you ever hear of the Children’s Crusade? In 1212, thousands of children from France and Germany were led to believe that with their pure hearts, God would somehow give them a miraculous victory over the Muslim infidels who had captured the holy land. Yet none of them ever even made it to the holy land to fight. Many died just trying to get to the coast. (They also believed the ocean would miraculously part when they reached it.) Those who made it to the coast and boarded ships were taken and sold as slaves. The tragic moral of the story: Even if men have childlike hearts, they are doomed without training for battle. Why? “The devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Pet.5:8. He has mauled many. Ask any pastor how many people he has seen whose lives have been ravaged by sin and Satan. Believers need to be trained to fight the enemy or they will meet the same horrible fate as little children going off to war.

Here's another depressing war story- this time regarding highly trained soldiers. The year was 1862, early in the Civil War. President Lincoln was quite frustrated with his general, George McClellan. The gallant general trained and drilled and showed off his Army of the Potomac in military parades.

Though they were well-fitted and vast, McClellan kept stalling and requesting more troops and weaponry. Exasperated, Linclon wrote, "Dear General McClellan, if you're not going to use the army, may I borrow it for a while?"

The moral of this story? What good is it if you even have a church filled with well trained men  of God; if they are not led into battle, all their training is pointless. We must train and then engage men in the War of wars. Remember what W.A.R. stands for-
W= Worthy lives to live ourselves. We are to war to live lives Worthy of God. Our purity and devotion is vital to protect.
A=Activate believers. We need to Activate the many sidelined saints to the battle call.
R=Release unbelievers. We are commissioned to set captives free.
If we and our protégés are not focused on this, we will just be playing soldiers.
But we are focused on making W.A.R. and I am quite proud of you for that. We are seeking to recruit protégés whom we will train to W.A.R. with us.

We know that athletes in sports also devote themselves to training. Even in Paul's day this was true. He wrote, "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last." But why did he and why should we train? Paul goes on to tell us- "but we do it (train) to get a crown that will last forever." 1 Cor.9:25. Athletes have coaches to train them. That is what you will soon be doing, coach with your Pros. Apart from going off to a Bible college or seminary, it's hard to find a place where a Christian man can go to be trained by coaches to win for the Lord. I like what you're preparing to do!

Thankfully, such a training process is not all on us. The Lord is the Master Mentor and He is eager to help the men who volunteer to train and fight with us- “Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war,” Ps.144:1. God trains us to be like Himself- “The Lord is a warrior.” Ex.15:3.(By the way, how is it that men can read their Bibles, and not see that they need to be training and engaging in the war of wars? This is where their manly manhood is called out and developed. I’m so glad we’re on the same page!)

1.-Share one thing that strikes you from today’s blog.
2.-Write on your MP3 card, Psalm 144:1 “Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war.” Then do the Did it.

(Remember, all you have to do is put a letter up if you did such. So if you didn't have anything to R about, or you forgot to A= Attack in prayer, just skip typing the letters R and A.)

G. How many individuals or groups did you get to share and enrich from your MP3 card?

R?
E? Did you Encourage a teammate since yesterday?
A? Attacked in warfare prayer? O Lord give us Power HOUSE men to train and battle with us to forcefully advance your kingdom.

T? Feel free to also share outreach opportunities you had, or you can just put up numbers.

  1. 1."Dear General McClellan, if you're not going to use the army, may I borrow it for a while?" Did the general ever go into go into battle and what kind of record did he have? By studying God's Word we Ave a battle plan. and we also see that we have an enemy. And if we open the door the enemy sticks his foot in and enters in our lives.
We have to know who the enemy is and how he operates.

    A. Thank you Lord for your precious Word. It is truly a sword in our hand so that we may fight against the enemy. And thank you Lord because we know that the battle is yours help us to do our part infighting. But ultimately we know that you have already won the battle. By conquering sin on the cross with your precious Son and the blood that he shed for our sins. we have the battle plans in our hands all we have to do is read them.

    1. McClellan went into battle, but soon stopped, demanding more troops. Lincoln replaced him. But McClellan resented Lincoln and actually ran against him for the presidency a few years later.

  2. 1.- Once again in today's lesson I am clearly reminded that even though I may be trained to go to battle if God is not with me I am going to fail. Also knowing that "the Lord is the Master Mentor" takes the focus off of me and puts it all on God who is the only person that can change someone's heart- sometimes I like to believe that I am the reason people are changing for the better. I only need to be obedient to God's voice and He will do changing in people's hearts.

    1. I am thankful that you, Roger, are a model of a HOUSE man, specifically, as you mentioned today, obedience. So Lord, I pray for HOUSE men to rise up at NL midway and throughout all the city. May you continue to shape Rogers heart so that he falls deeper in love with you, because we know that obedience is one of the ways we show our love for you. Take Roger deeper as his trust and obedience grow in You Jesus.

  3. 1. So many times we can get caught up in training and learning about the game that we never get onto the field and play. That's why I believe this WAR is so important. It talks about action. To live a worthy live, be activate in the faith, release captives, it all requires us to take action on some level.

  4. 1. It's unfortunate that so many go into battle with lack of or ill trained.

"The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want." Galatians 5:17 NIRV

  5. 1) What stands out to me, is that the general had obtained large resources, by what I assume would have been predicated by patience, observation and strategic planning. If you look at this alone it would seem very promising, a situation filled with great potential. But then you have the failure to act, The death of all potential. Let us be men of action, wisdom and Godly dependence.

  8. 1. McClellan sat on the sidelines even though he had a vast army and this reminds me of how many Christians believe, read the word, and live it for the most part-- but they don't step up to the plate when it's needed most. They don't want to leave their comfort zone and talk to others about The Lord, salvation , nor promoting involvement.
The bible is full of verses clearly stating that we should profess our faith and Love for God and take the step to disciple others.
It is our duty to be fully trained to dispute false teaching and educate others to understand the truth and live by it.

  11. 1) Psalm 144:1 Praise to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

Physical war was so much a part of David's life. He fought valiantly for the security and peace of God's chosen people who were surrounded by many enemies. When David went to war, he risked much. He could loose his life in battle. He risked becoming seriously wounded and maimed for the rest of life. Perhaps the worst thing that could of happened to David would be the risk of being captured by his enemies and forced to live the rest of his life in cruel enslavement. But David's strength, confidence and courage came from his dependence and trust in God his Rock. David realized that God had trained his hands for war. God had given David the ability, and the necessary skills to war against Israel's enemies and accomplish his life's mission. Paul said that “David had served God's purpose in his own generation” (Acts 13:36)

We Praise you LORD, our Rock who is training our hands for spiritual war through ministries like M3.
Help us to learn and apply the skills we need for our spiritual battles and to remain dependent upon you
for the outcome. Help the men we are reaching to realize that there is far too much more for them to risk and to loose by not joining with You in the battle. And open their eyes to see how much there is to be gained for Your glory and your Kingdom. Oh Lord, like David, may we all serve Your purpose in our own generation.

  13. "What good is it if you even have a church filled with well trained men of God; if they are not led into battle, all their training is pointless. We must train and then engage men in the War of wars."
    1) This statement got me. To have a something great and never use it. It reminded me of my grandfather he had a snow blower but when it snowed he never brought it out. He would use a shovel all the time. Time and time again I would go to his basement and see it there all shining In the corner. I would ask him does it not work. He said " it works". Then one day I met up with him in the basement and he told me someone stoled it. In my mind I was like I hope that person uses it. My point is that why have something so great to offer people or this world and let it go to waste. Or in my grandfathers case get it stolen. I learned a lot from my grandfather, he always encouraged me to serve GOD. I believe GOD will use us in ways we can not imagine. Lets get ready for battle.

  15. 1. What I got from today's blog is that the children were naturally naive in their belief about God, due to their lack of knowledge and training. So it could be with men engaged in spiritual war, if they are not reading the Word and seeking God through prayer and such, they will be naive, ignorant, and vulnerable to spiritually being killed off.

Something that is striking is the fact of men having the very vast amount of bible knowledge but none of the love. As you stated in your question Dave, "how is it that men can read their Bibles, and not see that they need to be training and engaging in the war of wars?" The fact being that there is a missing component within the relationship with God. The Love for God and the love for another brother in the same way.
However the relationship can be cultivated and so can the experience in training. The time invested is where we are matured from children into men spiritually prepared for battle

  17. 1. Dave G wrote, "By the way, how is it that men can read their Bibles, and not see that they need to be training and engaging in the war of wars? This is where their manly manhood is called out and developed." -- unfortunately, speaking from my own past experience, as a man, for far too long, I was looking for ease and comfort. I read the bible and practiced the principles (which is good) for myself, but I really never had a clear vision, as to what it takes to "Fight a spiritual war"?? M3 has helped open my spiritual eyes to see and motivate me to "Intentionally Influence" other MEN for Christ, whether they are born again or NOT. As of today, everyday, I am looking to intentionally influence people, for Christ and His word! I am looking to defend HIS Word (Truth) all the time now. Oh God, help me to not let this fire fade away, but help me to be disciplined and daily, fan into flame the spiritual gifts that You have given me, and to constantly remember, it is my duty to fight this War! Help me not to take the easy way out anymore, I can only do it with Your strength and leading :)

  19. 1. I loved the reference of Gen. McClellan and I think that it is extremely apropos to this topic. Why? Ultimately, McClellan (a seasoned military man) had difficulty taking direction from a Lincoln a politician (what's he know about battle anyway). McClellan's meticulous battle plans often were ineffective against the Confederates as he did not consider properly the strength and resolve of the enemy. As it relates to us, we are sometimes trapped by our own capability and designs and though we think that we're in the battle, we miss the mark completely!
