Mon.3.30.15...I'm an Atheist

What Would You Say To That?

Let’s face it- we live in a world that is growing more and more indifferent or even critical of faith in God and His word. TV and the internet spew out a lot of criticism of the Christian faith. Are there criticisms valid? If not, how can you intelligently respond to their charges against God and the Bible? Let’s take the next couple weeks to look into this. Is our faith just a leap of faith into thin air or is it a step into the light onto solid ground? Is our faith reasonable? And can we give reasonable responses to critics?  We better be able to! You and I are commanded to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have” 1 Pet.3:15.  Giving such a reasonable response is known as apologetics. It has nothing to do with apologizing. The Greek word “apologia” from which we get “apologetics” means to give a well reasoned reply. It’s the word used in the above verse that we are to be able to give "a reason" for the hope you have.

There have always been skeptics and even atheists. If a person said to you, “I’m an atheist" what would you say to that? What would your reasonable response be to that? Check out the following out the "out of this world" short video for atheists.

1.- Read Rom.1:18-20. What strikes you from it or the video?

2.-Is there a God? Write out the following phrase on your MP3 card- "God has made it plain to them...so that men are without excuse." Rom.1:19,20

Romans 1- Creation reveals God (the source of the creation)
Romans 2- Conscience reveals God (the source of our sense of right and wrong)
Romans 3- Christ perfectly reveals God (The Source and the source of salvation!)

A Christian friend of mine, who was an atheist, told me he abandoned it after simply marveling at a squirrel. May the following video move us to marvel and worship our great Creator. (Watch it if you have time. These videos are great to pass on. Please give yourself MP3 credits for doing so. Please input all your scores on our new April tab on our GREAT scoreboard spreadsheet.)

  1. 1." The Righteous live by faith and our creator, God has made his invisible qualities known- his eternal power and divine nature-have been seen and understood from what has been made- so there is no excuse"
There is no excuse for ignoring God's presence from creation until today as you look at what beauty and details of his world created and the miracles only He can make happen to his faithful believers. I am a 1st hand example as he rescued all of us and I have been rescued from the darkness and rescued again from a sure physical death experience, as well as Spiritual. I was prepared to die physically, but not Spiritually.
I want eternal life with And through Jesus.

I couldn't pull up the videos- but I'll try again later today

  2. 2. Great verses pointing out that the power and divine nature of God are clearly visible in creation thus leaving all people without and excuse for not believing in the existence of God.
The complexity, beauty and design of our planet are enough evidence of the existence of an all powerful God.
I am so thankful that we at M3 not only believe that God exists but also we acknowledge and publicly declare that God sent his Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and because of that love for us we will someday spend eternity with Him.
    - The video was also very good.

  3. 1. What strikes me about live video is that, I once was blind but now I see. I made all kinds of excuses for not to live for God. But thank God for his Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. He has given us a reason to live. And to have eternal life.

  4. 1. I enjoyed both the scripture and the video very informative. I really liked the scripture! It showed me we have no excuses on judgment day. You either choose him or sin. I seen myself always choosing sin and making excuses to myself why I'm doing so. This scripture opened my eyes that on judgment day their will be no excuses. The video made a good example of that too. The video also made a good point that thiers a creator for everything. Even us!

  5. 1. "So that people are without excuse"

A fool can be any person who lacks knowledge, a person who is presented with truth but either fails or deliberately chooses not to heed it's advise. But the worst type of fool is the person who says there's no God!

"The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good." Psalm 14:1

  6. 1.- Read Rom.1:18-20. What strikes you from it or the video? The video shows to me some the fear people have in facing there sinful ways. Simply by rejecting God, it gives them no accountability, a sense of liberty to do as they wish without any repercussions. Sadly they reject and submerge God's given gift in all of us to distinguish true sense of right and wrong. How can anyone not believe in God? He's ever present in our lives, just this morning when I left the house, I was given the privilege of hearing the beautiful singing of the bird's, one of many, of God's creations. God gives us a sense of righteousness, this was given to us upon our creation to give us a choice to choose a true path of peace and joy with Him. Thank you Father God for creating me to your likeness, thank you for giving me my sense of being alive in you and your way, I pray I never fail You and that I stand strong and true. In Jesus name, Amen.

  7. What puzzles me the most is how people can deny God. I like how Plato describes atheism as ''a disease of the soul''. Also how the bible says ''The fool has said in his heart, there is no God". I agree with the video that also states that without a God, life is meaningless. It troubles me that an atheist does not believe in God yet has such hate for Him. I pray that God helps to soften there hearts and for them to see/feel His presence.

  11. 1- All the video and scriptures did for me is remind me that God is great and powerful. He has revealed Himself to all. Even the atheist will say there is no God. But how would they know to say that there is no God if they didn't know there was a God. The word God should not be part of their vocabulary if they don't believe that there is no God. With that said everyone believes there is a God. They don't want to acknowledge God in God.

  12. Romans 1:18-20. Watched the video as well. But what stuck out, like several of the men have mentioned, creation offers proof of a powerful "someone or something" behind it all. We are without excuse, the Bible says. But sin has damaged our view, and severed our relationship with the Designer, that without us having our eyes opened, we'll miss the proof that's right in front of us.

  14. 1.- Read Rom.1:18-20. What strikes you from it or the video?

What strikes me from the passage is what God's Word says is evident to man and what God reveals to man.
God made evident to man His Divine power, attributes and nature from both within man by conscience and reason, and through nature outside and all around man. So man has no excuse for not knowing about God. Rather then responding by giving God honor and thanks, man suppressed those truths, resulting in ungodliness and unrighteousness. And so because of these, God revealed (uncovered and made known) from heaven His wrath. Man now has an urgent need to repent and be restored to God.

  16. 1. Rom.1:18-20. For Christians to have a clear answer about who is God and why we believe in God. Although is it clear to us Christians that in the bible God is the creator of the heaven and earth, and of everything that exist, God is the Creator. It is clear to Christians because we experience it every day, and live a Godly life. God’s wrath is against sinful humanity and they are without excuse that God is the creator of being and the earth. I pray to reach out to friends and people that need to be in a loving relationship with our creator God, that they too need God in their live. Amen.

    2. Is there a God? Yes, there is a God, an Almighty God, that nothing is impossible to him. He is our Lord and Savior who die for our sins and whoever believes in him, shall not perish but have eternal life. Amen.

  17. 1. What strikes me from Romans 1:18 Niv..
The wrath of God is being reveled from heaven against all godliness and wickedness of people, who SUPRESS the truth by their wickedness.

In this case God will bring His wrath (punishment) to all people who try to hide or hinder God's truth *not by surpressing His knowledge by words but by their acts of sin "supress the truth by their wickedness". Another one is that oh how beautiful it is to see the invisible qualities (knowledge & power ) in this world, reminds me of Psalm 19 1:4

The heavens declare the glory of God;the skies proclaim the work of his hands.Day after day the pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they have have no use of words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.

  18. 1. Rom.1:18-20. What strikes you from it or the video? Dave G mentions in the video, "For a person to be truly an atheist, he/she would have to be All-Knowing in order to know for sure that God doesn't exist. He would need complete knowledge in the realm of the invisible, otherwise, How would he/she know if God was not right beside them as a spirit, since God is Spirit." -- I have not met too many self-proclaiming atheists but I have asked someone to "Prove that there is No God?? and of course, they quickly responded with, prove there is a God. I then responded again, "Prove that there is No God?? How do you explain all of Creation, and Life?? and they told me that they did not know :(

I have found out, when talking to a cult member, a nay sayer, or a self proclaiming atheist, it is always a Great idea to go kindly on the offensive, and ask them to explain their answers?, how did they arrive at those answers?, what "Specific proof of evidence do they have?, and what if they are sincerely wrong?, would they admit that they are wrong?, what if I could prove to you that Jesus Christ is God, would you accept that Truth? Then, I always try to have them read from the Bible themselves, and I pray while they are reading, that God would open their hearts and minds and grant them "Repentance" as God is speaking directly to them, by the reading of His Word. I try to let God do as much talking as possible :) and I just find some passages for the people to read :)

    1. Very good Israel! The great approach you've been using is similar to what I suggested last week to the men to use. Gently ask- What led you to believe that? Are you a person who wants the truth? Then would you please read through the gospel of John seeking to know and follow the truth? Keep up the great work!

  19. Amen, and Intresting approach Israel. I've found myself doing a similar approach to a co worker on knowing the "truth" but he kindly rejected on reading especially when he can not prove that their isn't " a God". I kindly left it alone, for ignorance was showing on his face. None the less I pray for him.

  20. I'm unsure if I did this assignment (Day 15) right or not, but here it is.

G.a- Read Daniel 10 and note how there is an invisible angelic war going on. Share a brief thought on this amazing chapter.

I thought the chapter was rather interesting. However, I always found it strange that the angel said that he was kept from going to Daniel for 21 days of the "prince of the kingdom of Persia". The story makes me glad that we have direct access to God now because of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. I would guess that a lot would have changed with spiritual warfare after Jesus Christ sent the Holy Spirit.

G.b- From the HARD STUCK identity lies listed above, list a couple that really stand out to you that you will engage in warfare prayer to break such hell holds. Write them on your MP3 card. Also write out the following portion of James 4:2- "You do not have, because you do not ask God" Then do the Did it. (That verse is such a holy kick in the pants to me to pray.)

Some of those HARD STUCK identities that stand out to me was defective, condemned, hopeless and shameful.

  23. 1) What I value most is the fact of impossibility for humanity to absolutely know that "God does not exist". The burden of proof they need is inaccessible to them and from my stand point does not exist. Further it seems people who are angry with God are not angry with God so much as they are angry with sin and its consequences which they hold God responsible for. It is not God tha they hate but the god they have created in their heads and hearts.
