Sun.3.8.15...ThisWill Uplift You!

This is a true story. David Murrow is the director of Church for Men. He speaks at a lot of men’s meetings. Here’s an ironic experience he had-

“I’m getting ready to speak to several hundred guys at a men’s event. Let me say it again: a men’s event. And the band is leading us through this song:
Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, it is intimate
I feel I’m moving to the rhythm of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in our secret place
Why do worship leaders choose such girly songs, filled with romantic imagery, even when they perform at men’s events?”

I don’t know Mr. Murrow! We’ve been looking at Super Psalms, songs written by tough men like the mighty warrior and giant killer David. There was nothing sissy in him or in his songs. David knew the power of praise, turning our gaze to God. Singing a powerful song to the Lord is great way to connect with our Creator and the quickest way to lift my spirit when it's sagging. The devil can’t stand a singing saint. God knows how edifying songs can be and so he says, “Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord” Eph.5”19. How good that we’ve been able to speak to one another with psalms that we’ve been studying. How rare it is to find men sharing Scripture and songs with each other. You've helped to create such a great great band of brothers that our new proteges will be soon entering into.

1.-So what’s a Christian song that has strengthened you for life and it’s battles?
Just name it or better yet, if you’ve found a good version of it on YouTube, share the link. Each week I look forward to featuring one from the list we’ll compose here.

Perhaps, you need some help finding such. David Murrow asked Jeffrey Painter to assemble a list of good worship songs for men. He came up with fifty-five. This out to prime the pump. Now everyone can share one.

  4. Moving forward by Israel Houghton

what a moment You have brought me to
Such a freedom I have found in You
You're the healer who makes all things new

I'm not going back, I'm moving ahead
Here to declare to You my past is over, in You
All things are made new, surrendered my life to Christ
    I'm moving, moving forward

You have risen with all power in Your hands
You have given me a second chance

    You make all things new
Yes, You make all things new and I will follow You forward, oh
    You make all things new
You make all things new and I will follow You forward!

  5. I don't know if I necessarily agree that there's girly worship songs. I mean love and intimacy is a gender neutral thing. Yes, the way it is expressed can be different. One could argue that some of the most popular songs in any era are about love. It's a common theme in most songs, works of art, writings. Worship can be a vulnerable experience, just like a loving relationship can be. To confess our love for the Lord is an amazing experience, sometimes we may not see it as intoxicating or initimate, but who can say that they have ever experienced a kind of love Jesus has expressed to us. Maybe it's just me, but those "girly" songs minister to me just as well. Regardless, I digress. I like THE STAND by Hillsong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kV5iZBTNYrk

    1. Eddie, I'm glad you said something, as I fully agree with you. Especially being someone who has wrote lyrics and has an appreciation for the time and effort put in by an individual. I think labeling a song as manly or girly is very irrelevant and subtracts from the the point of the song in the first place, which is praise or acknowledgement of God.

  12. Sometimes we can get pretty beaten up in battle. Sometime we pass through a season where God seems distant. These can have ways of making us feel poor in spirit. Fernando Ortega wrote a song called “Lord of Eternity” It has helped my heart reach up to my Heavenly Father in those times. www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-ZAQwXZ7YQ
