Tues.3.24.15...Jonah 2.. Share Your Story Too!

Amazing Grace!
Jonah was in such a great storm at sea. Yet the storm within him may have been even greater. Only God's amazing grace spared him. It reminds me of another man at sea, also hardened to the things of God, but in a very vile way. A gospel tract describes this man's life as follows- "One would be hard pressed to imagine, let alone to live, a blasphemous life equal to [his] early years.
In his youth he became the captain of a slave ship, landing at least one load of his human cargo in Charleston, South Carolina. It is reported that at times he was so drunk and destitute that even his crew regarded him as little more than an animal. Once he fell overboard and his ship’s crew refused to drop a boat to him. Instead they threw a harpoon at him, with which they dragged him back into the ship. He seemed oblivious to the plight of the poor black souls chained in the hold of his ship.
His willful and wanton disregard for all that is right and holy led him into a life plagued with despair, dangers at sea, abuse, public floggings, destitution, depression, near drownings and miraculous escapes." It took a great storm at sea, lasting four weeks, before John Newton finally started taking seriously the Scriptures his mother had taught him as a young boy. And now you know the story of the man, John Newton, who wrote the world famous song, "Amazing Grace."

Each person's story from sin to salvation is a song to God of His amazing grace. You and I can also sing our story of salvation-
"Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see."

When I think of Jonah's life, though he was already "saved," he was a wretch and rebel as well. Stormy waters also caused him to finally to cry out to God and do His will. He writes out his turning point prayer and testimony in Jonah chapter 2.

Have you ever written out your testimony? It's really not hard to do. Remember the story of the blind man Jesus healed in John 9? He simply said, "I once was blind, but now I see." John 9:25. (Now you know where John Newton got those lyrics from.)

1.-So let's write out our Amazing Grace stories of how "I once blind, but now I see." Make it short. Write it out on the front and back of your MP3 card.
First, on the front of your card, briefly describe what your life was like before following Christ. We did something like this previously, but we just used key words that expressed how we felt, such as empty, depressed, hateful, etc. Feel free to use such again. You don't have to write out a full story, but when you share your testimony with others, share a story, if possible, when you were feeling empty, depressed, whatever it was for you. People love to listen to stories. Let me first share with you a snippet of my story as an example of how short you can make your testimony.

I pursued the "high life" throughout high school. But it left me so empty. I remember looking at my bloodshot eyes and asking, "Is this all there is?" Then I pursued philosophy and psychology in college, but that didn't fill the hole in my soul.

Now briefly write out how Jesus has changed you. The blind man said, "The man they call Jesus made mud and spread it over my eyes and told me, 'Go to the pool of Siloam and wash yourself.' So I went and washed, and now I can see!" John 9:11 NLT. What happened to you? How did you get saved or what was a significant spiritual turning point for you?

Here's what happened to me-
I was kicking around in a pile of autumn leaves and had such feelings of hatred toward my sister who had become a radiant Christian, filled with love and joy. I so resented her! But God used that to show me I needed Jesus too to forgive me and fill the hole in my soul. And He has! I'm not saying I'm perfect. Go ask my wife. But because of repenting and receiving Christ, I now have eternal life.

(Normally, I would also give you a verse to write on your 3x5 card, but I guess you've already filled it up :)

Got time to praise the Lord for His amazing grace? Enjoy this short video then. Beautiful scenery as well!

Wow, what a lot of great encouraging comments I read yesterday! Perhaps you noticed we had two guys post for the first time yesterday- Phil Raymond, who lost his father a week ago and Ricardo (aka Rich) Guardiola.

Don't forget to go each day to the Scoreboard and put your points on the board. By doing this you are a GREAT example to the Pros.

  5. 1. I remember being a skeptic to the Bible. I grew up serving and being a part of a church. I went to Sunday school, I was an alterboy, I made my sacraments, but never read the Word. So I seemingly made my own definition of what I believed. I even remember saying, I believe some of that stuff but not all of it. Lol, but I wasn't even reading any of it. But truly, when God put me in a position to respond to His invitation I finally did. He took away the biggest idol in my life and I felt like I had nothing. I responded by seeking His word for hours at a time seeing what it truly did say. And it revolutionized my life, internally and externally.

  9. I was a honor roll student in high school. Went to college. I was a good kid, followed the roles. I still felt empty, lonely and no value at all. I would go to church but nothing. It wasn't until I read the powerful word of God that I was set free. Jesus filled that emptiness. He assured me that he will never leave me or forsake me. He told me I am his child. I am a child of the most high God. The prince of peace.
Thank you Lord for never leaving me. You have been so good to me Love you.

  16. 1. I grew up in a disfunctional family with a loving mother and she gave all to The Lord even though she followed Catholicism. My dad was a drunk and physically and verbally abusive most of the time. He took us to Catholic Church late and we left early and I learned nothing. I didn't break the chain of my father's sins nor his father, nor his father and this created enormous guilt and shame and I tried to hide from my sins against The Lord by immersing myself in business. Surely if I helped others and not myself then he will reward me. But as time went in I became ill from the turmoil within my heart.
I sold my company and moved to Chicago as I felt a calling to help my aging family. I woke to a dream about God and cried out to my wife-- forgive me Lord as I can't take it any more I need you now Lord. I called her uncle who was a devout Christian and asked where Mark Jobe was as I had heard him before and had a great connection for the 1st time. I went to New Life and intently listened to the word through his messenger .
I began to immerse myself in the word, I studied and Got Saved and committed my life to serving The Lord , got baptized and I am committed to sharing the gospel with others and helping serve The Lord as his disciple to bring others to his Kingdom.
I'm moving forward and I won't look back!

If you are creating your own prayer, see if you can make it short so you can easily remember it. Ps.119:125 "I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes."

  23. 1) Before Jesus[ I sought pleasure to offset the pain life had so liberally gave. But in silent moments, when the stimulation wore off, I felt despair deep with in my soul. I felt a lostness in my lack of purpose, my lack of meaning. I felt a question nagging at my soul, "Why do you exist?". For a time the answer was simple, to examine joy and exploit pleasure, but as time went by I found that these experiences became empty, what once was full became hollow. What changed? I started to see past the moment and into the future, I started to ponder eternity and concluded I had no equity. I conceded that one to two generations after my life I would be forgotten and my contribution to this world would be as nothing; I had no purpose and without purpose I had no meaning. This lead me to a deep despair. ]

How Jesus has changed me [ Now I know my every action echo's in eternity, now I know that small unseen acts of virtue are great residual investments. Now I know I am part of the greatest war my race's existence has ever faced and I am equipped on the front lines. Now I take great pride in knowing that I serve in the army of my Lord. Now I know that I am more significant then I could ever have hoped to be, I am my Lords reward and He is my battle cry.

  24. 1)Very brief version of my testimony:
I was sort of proud of my Catholic upbringing. I took pride that I was an alter boy. I went to mass every Sunday, and partook of the sacraments. I feared God and going to hell. This kept my life somewhat moral. I stayed clear of hard drinking, drugs or loose dames. One day I took up the challenge to read the Bible that I said that I believed in. It opened my eyes. I saw that I was a big sinner and that I didn't deserve to go to heaven. Nor could I earn going to heaven even if I gave it my best effort. I saw how my sin separated me from God. I saw that Jesus came into the world to be the Savior, by purposefully dying on the cross to pay the penalty for all my sin. I prayed, confessing my sinfulness and asked for His forgiveness and His salvation which I put my trust in. My fear has turned into a loving relationship with God. I now humbly serve God out of gratitude for giving me eternal life.

Before a life with Christ I lived a life of morality. It was very plain and simple but there is a major difference between living with rules in authority and living with Christ and a changed heart as authority. Early on I lived without Christ and without the clarity of my own sinful nature. This lead me to say and be very thankful for the commission that God gives to each of us to reach out and speak to someone. It was only because a friend gently shared the Gospel with me and invited.

  31. Funny thing, I always thought I was a "good' person and that there was not too much "bad" in me. I compared myself with everyone else and I looked at everyone else as "worse" than I was. What pride!!! I have always struggled with pride, even my derogatory jokes were always full of pride. What God really used in my life was historical, scientific, archaeological, and common sense Truth to change my life. Once I started testing the Bible to scientific and historical data, my life changed. How could the Bible have the very "Fingerprint" of God all over it!! Woo Hoo. Then, God used strengthening bible studies on the concept of the trinity and eternal salvation to cement my faith :) That thirst for Truth has led me to the Truth Himself, Christ Jesus. I love what Jesus says, when He states, I am the Way, and "I am the Truth" ...... Truth has a name and His name is Christ Jesus!!!
