"A good name is better than fine perfume,
and the day of death better than the day of birth
It is better to go to a house of mourning than go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man" Eccles.7:1-2.
It's vital to have a good name both here and in the hereafter. One day you will die and so will I. Going to a wake is a good reminder of that date with destiny that we shall have. Perhaps our funeral won't be as well attended as Chris Kyle's was as we saw in yesterday's blog. But it would be good now to think about what that day will be like. Chris Kyle, in his autobiography, "American Sniper" reflected on the day of his death. "I am a strong Christian. Not a
perfect one- not close. But I strongly believe in God,
Jesus, and the Bible. When I die, God is going to hold me accountable for
everything I've done on earth. He may hold me back until last and run everybody
else through the line, because it will take so long to go over all my
sins...I believe the fact that I've
accepted Jesus as my savior will be my salvation. But in
that backroom or whatever it is when God confronts me with my sins, I do not
believe any of the kills I had during the war will be among them. Everyone I
shot was evil. I had good cause on every shot. They all deserved to die."
Kyle is credited with 160 kill shots during his four tours in Iraq as a Navy SEAL. "Because of his track record as a marksman during his deployment to Ramadi, the insurgents named him Shaitan Ar-Ramadi (English: 'The Devil of Ramadi'), and put a $21,000 bounty on his head that was later increased to $80,000. They posted signs highlighting the cross on his arm as a means of identifying him.[3][14] In his book, "American Sniper", Kyle describes his longest successful shot ever: in 2008, outside Sadr City, he killed an insurgent about to fire a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) at a U.S. Army convoy with "a straight-up luck shot" from his McMillan Tac-338 sniper rifle from about 2,100 yards (1.2 miles) away."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Kyle. He saved many fellow soldiers lives and they loved and admired him for it.
What was it that Navy SEALs adorned Chris Kyle's coffin with?
It was their Trident pin that they earned by becoming a Navy SEAL.
Navy SEALs have such a good name. To become a Navy SEAL (SEa Air, Land), each man must complete BUD/S training- Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL training. "Candidates who have made a full commitment to their goal of becoming a SEAL and those who decide ahead of time that quitting is not an option, regardless of how challenging the training becomes, dramatically increase their chances." (http://sofrep.com/navy-seals/become-navy-seal/#ixzz3fY6rhtdj)
I like that a lot. They decided ahead of time that quitting was not an option. That reminds me of one of those "Pass It On" billboards and bus stop signs I saw recently-
Aren't you glad Christ wasn't a quitter?! We would all be doomed if he quit in the garden of Gethsemane. We so admire him because he didn't quit. Despite the horrors ahead of him he prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done...And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground" Luke 22:42,44. Because He didn't quit, he now has more than a good name. He has a name above all other names! (see Phil.2:8-9)
Perhaps you've met people who have quit pursuing the will of God. They may have stopped going to church altogether, or maybe they have become merely Sunday morning spectators. Their good name has become tarnished. If they continue on this quitters course, no hero's funeral or heavenly celebration will await them. We don't know what lies from the enemy may have led them to coast or quit fighting. I don't think it is tough times in themselves that cause a person to quit. It is a lie they believe. No amount of torture in a Japanese prison camp could cause Louie Zamperini to become a quitter. He remained unbroken. (What an inspiring movie Unbroken was!) What a good name he gained, especially since he came to Christ after the war. Don't be a quitter. Be unbroken. Be unstoppable.
1.- In light of the day of our death and the good name we want to maintain, think soberly with me right now. What do you think the enemy might seek to use to get you to quit the mission and battle we are in?
To be forewarned is to be forearmed. We can be far better prepared to deal with those enemies who have "put a bounty on our heads" to take us out of the fight. Do what Chris Kyle did- put them to death, spiritually of course, Col.3:5.
2.- Read through the first half of Ecclesiastes chapter 7, verses 1-14, and pick a verse and share some of your thoughts regarding it.
Speaking of good names, did you know that many believers misname Ecclesiastes? They call it Ecclesiasticus, which is actually the name of an apocryphal book in the Catholic Bible. Easy mistake. For those who want to learn more about Ecclesiasticus, here's a link to a short article about it from Got Questions- http://www.gotquestions.org/book-of-Ecclesiasticus.html
Armando took an opportunity to give out a Greatest Mini-movies card again. Here's what he wrote- "Today I gave a mini-movie card to a co-worker who said he will watch it and said to me, "There's a purpose to this." He also said that the Lord works in mysterious ways." Way to go Armando!

1.i think the enemy might use complacency to deter us from our Spiritual growth, or by geographically telling us it too difficult or not worth it, or taking advantage of our busy schedules he might try to convince us that this is the area we need to back down in -- when in fact it truly is where we should become more aggressive in those times to study Gods words to persevere
ReplyDelete2- "Wnen times are good be happy, but when times are bad consider this; God made one as well as the other. Therefore no one can discover anything about their future" ECC 7:14
God made everything and knows all-- so when good things happen " Praise him for it" and when "Bad things happen to us praise him again" as it is his will and plan for us and sometimes we don't understand why he planned it that way but go with it and love him always for it will make you a better person and future soldier for his Kingdom come! Trust in God!
Good point!
DeleteThe enemy is the discourager, the father of lies. His language is deception. I'm glad I'm in a group filled with encouraging men who are battling and laboring for each other daily!
DeleteJack, you rightly identified a few different areas the enemy can and does use to wipe men out. How often we've heard men say they are too busy to join, "when in fact it truly is where we should become more aggressive in those times to study Gods words to persevere." Good thoughts!
DeleteI agree with you , Jack. You give the enemy a little space and he settle in with thoughts to confuse or entice us.
Delete1. I'm tempted with lust. I know a lot of good men get taken out that way. I'm determined not to be one of them.
ReplyDelete2.“Sages invest themselves in hurt and grieving. Fools waste their lives in fun and games.”
Ecclesiastes 7:4 MSG
I found this to be a reality in my life which helps me not resent the hard times.
Amen Dave. I second your first response. I too am determined to not be taken down by lust.
DeleteAppreciate your honesty there Dave. Lust, pride and greed are the three giants we will have to fight till the day we die. Coupling your determination with wise practices makes you a very strong warrior indeed.
DeleteDave. Thx for your posts and indeed it's difficult to fight off temptation. The more we are aware of Satan at work makes it less difficult to fight it off and praying for Jesus help is a great way to turn your eyes
DeleteVery good point Dave D., something every man needs to check heavily.
Delete1. The enemy uses similar tactics just in different forms: Lust of the eyes, Lust of the flesh, pride of life. This may look different for us, but the same tactics he used with Adam and Eve, he used with Jesus. I also believe that as leaders and men, especially for me, identity can be attacked and that is why it needs to be secure in Christ.
ReplyDelete2.Ecc. 7:8 The end of a matter is better than its beginning,
and patience is better than pride.
Very good point also about identity Eddie. When we are deceived or forgetful of our true identity, then the temptations to pride, lust or greed become much more attractive.
DeleteSecured in Christ and filled with word ofGod.
DeleteGood point Eddie. I didn't think of our identity being attacked.
Delete1. Thinking we don't have enough time in the day to read the blog. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these other things will be added on to you. Being fatigued and tired is another great tool of the enemy.
ReplyDelete2.Ecc.7.14." When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future." There's a reason that God does things and through the bad times we can also learn much.
This is one of my favorite verses Jer.29.11." For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Great point George. You are wise to seek first things first.
DeleteGeorge, you remind me of yesterday. I thought I was done with my comment. Turns out we were supposed to write a parallel of a verse. I only did a brief comment on it .I was a bit run down and going to leave it as is. A thought of Dave saying " don't be a quitter" came up. Dave, I didn't quit !
DeleteWay to go!
Delete1. The enemy continually tells me that my efforts to reach other for Christ are in vain, specially when I don't see emediate results.
ReplyDelete2. Eccl. 7:9 "Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools. "
Great admonishment to not let our flesh control us when we may be in a situation that causes us to become angry but rather we are suppose to be controlled by the Spirit.
James 1:19 " Know this my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger."
Oh, that is such a discouraging tactic of the enemy that you've identified Roger. I hope that you can defeat such by making the switch to being a sower versus a reaper. I enjoy being able to sow seeds. Give yourself a point each time for successfully doing just that. Bill Bright said, "Evangelism is sharing the good news in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God." Only God can make things grow. I like a plaque I saw which read, "I will not give the devil the satisfaction of getting me discouraged." I need to remember that at times too.
DeleteRoger, I use to get similar thoughts. My were how will they react , or what will they say . Then came thoughts of what we have studied. "Don't be ashame of the Lord". What a wake up! I had to ask God for forgiveness , and ask for courage to move ahead with his work. Go forward in God's work, Roger
DeleteRoger, some of the seeds you plant today may not sprout for years. I remember reading somewhere about seeds from desert plants that sit dormant for years, they wait until the conditions are right for them to start growing.
Delete1. One thing that made me stray away was believeing in my own understanding. I would compare myself to others and believe the things I was doing weren't wrong. I guess you can say the enemy can corrupt the mind into believeing things are right even tho they are truly wrong. That's why it is important to read his word and pray daily so that we will not rely on are sinful understanding but his knowledge and wisdom.
ReplyDelete2. “In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him.” Ecclesiastes 7:14 ESV
We all will have good times and hard times wether we are perfect Christians or not. I believe God tests us and sees how we will react to different situations. We need to keep focus on him and give him praise during good times and bad times.
Very good on both counts James!
DeleteFantastic, James. You're one young man who God is preparing for great work!
DeleteYou are so right James we should never rely on our understanding.
Delete1) I am clueless as to what the enemy could use to remove me from the christian fight, but I know some things he could use to slow me down. Fights with my wife, temptations to lust, busyness, and not having a clear picture of what I am seeking to do to honor Jesus or dedicated time to seek Him.
ReplyDelete2) 7:12 International Standard Version
Indeed, wisdom gives protection, just like money does, but it's better to know that wisdom gives life, to those who have mastered it.
Money is a material thing that can be lost or taken away. The man with wisdom knows the path, the method and the timing to acquire what he desires. Is it closeness to God, is it financial gain, is it relational closeness, or social influence. Wisdom answers the questions of how, what, why when and who, Wisdom has a plan and carries it out.
Good answers Antonio!
DeleteYes, Antonio, wisdom , God's gift, is the way to go.
Delete1- The enemy tried to discourage me in areas of feeling inadequacy. I can also say areas of lust however i have seen fruit in my life in the past year. I do not fall to lust very often. Which I am very glad however I know its naive to think I'm not vulnerable to it. So that's an area is still keep my guard up very high.
ReplyDelete2- Ecclesiastes 7:10
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.
I fee Solomon is saying here it isn't bad to remember good memories. But seasons always change, sometimes we will go through hard seasons. In a season where life isn't as we planned, it isn't bad to remember the easier times but we shouldn't let that get us down and or bring us into a state of depression. I know that has been the case for me in my life in the past. Just like a good season may have turned into a difficult one, we will always ride the storm and come out on the other side.
Luis , you're right. We have good times and very bad times . As you ride the roller coaster of life, hang on tight to Jesus!
DeleteGood words from you Louis and Louie :)
DeleteVery wise words, Luis! :)
Delete1) I think the Enemy would use the temptations of being young and single in a world were it is normal to base a relationship more off of a physical or sexual attraction than to base it off of true feelings, respect and loyalty
ReplyDeleteDefinitely brother. The enemy know exactly how to push the right buttons. But we have the power of Christ within us.
Delete1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteYes Andre. Learn to battle this area well because it doesn't go away.
Delete2) For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it. Ecclesiastes 7:12
ReplyDeleteI feel this is very powerful, if you wants others to succeed why hold in knowledge. Same goes for people you wish can find the comfort in God and Jesus, we should be passing on what we learn and hope that one day we can all get closer to god together
Good thoughts Andre - one day we can all get closer to God together.
Delete1. It could something as simple as taking a break from M3 and feeling that I can settle back in with no problems. But when you pull away from God's word, the enemy steps in . If you don't add fuel , the fire will die out. Continue searching God's word . Continue associating with the band of brothers. Don't give the enemy any way to come back into your life.
ReplyDelete2. Eccles 7:13. Consider the work of God, who can make straight what he has made crooked.?
Accept the way God makes things. We can not change what he has created. In everything, be thankful to God.
Amen may we all continue to search God's word.
DeleteVery good thoughts Louie! I know some men that needed to read what you have said.
DeleteLouie, your right taking a break could be bad. That's why it's important for us to be in the word everyday.
DeleteVery true, Louie. Taking breaks from reading God's word or from having fellowship with other believers can definitely be harmful. Good post!
Delete1.- I have no shame in admitting that I am weak. I, like many men, have vices. I feel that the enemy can and does toy with my mind at times. He is well aware of my vulnerabilities and more importantly, WHEN I am weak. I have been to combat. I know more than anything, the easiest way to defeat your enemy is to take their will to fight. For some of us, that may look like a beautiful woman—that isn’t your wife. For others, it may be money, status or material things. To some, their weakness may come in a container; glass or plastic, it may be smoked, inhaled or drunk. No matter what form they come in, the enemy knows what they are and will spare no expenses when it comes to finding your weakness and exploiting it.
ReplyDelete7 Extortion turns a wise person into a fool, and a bribe corrupts the heart.
2.- People do weird things when they are placed in tough situations. This is the time that your mettle shines through. When people are hungry, cold, wet, tired and scared, you see a different side of them.
Marcos, even though you've been frequently pushed out of the ring by the enemy lately (M3 - MIAs) , I commend you that you keep getting back in. I know that soon you'll figure it out and become not just steadfast and unmovable before the enemy but soon you will also be rapidly advancing against him and them. I'm so glad you joined M3 brother and that you will never give up. Lets both strive - no matter what it takes - to be Semper Fi.
DeleteVery good Mark! Only the man who who admits he is weak, will God make strong.
Delete"People do weird things when they are placed in tough situations. This is the time that your mettle shines through. When people are hungry, cold, wet, tired and scared, you see a different side of them." Your words make me admire the apostle Paul all the more for what he went through- 1 Cor.4:11-13. What a manly man!
Alright Gunny some good stuff here. God often works through our weaknesses. I just got done reading a book "the power of weakness" by Dan Dan Shaffer.
DeleteThanks for sharing my brother. Continue the great work on the blog.
ReplyDelete1- This question is a good one. I have no right answer for it. I know that God will not allow us to go through something he knows we can't handle. I've noticed that the enemy has tried to use lust and money issues to shake my faith. I will admit there have been times I've thought about Gods faithfulness. When that happens fellow brothers have sent me encouragement and it gets my mind back towards God.
ReplyDelete2- Ecclesiastes 7:8New Century Version (NCV)
8 It is better to finish something
than to start it.
It is better to be patient
than to be proud.
I feel this verse give some great advice.
Thank God for the faithful friends you've made. The one that set you back on the right track.
DeleteGod meets us where we are at, brother, whether it be on the mountain top of good times when our faith is strongest, or on our knees when sin tries to break us. His loving hands are never too far to catch us, especially when we stumble and fall. Sometimes, we are called to be His hands for one another. I have your back, brother.
DeleteI really appreciate your transparency here Vince- "I will admit there have been times I've thought about Gods faithfulness." This is definitely the work of the enemy which we all need to recognize. I've been there too.
Delete1
ReplyDeleteThe enemy might try to put on me the people that have quit on me and convince me not to rust and added to that get me to believe in that shame that I was not keeping up is why they quit. However as I was listening to Moody Radio yesterday I heard a sermon on trusting and that this over dramatized thinking is is false as well as Who to directly place trust into. While people may always disappoint regardless of intention we can make idols out of people if our attention is not direct and focused; and that attention should be on Christ.

Ecc 7:9 Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools.
It is very easy for angry and frustration to remain and sick like a clogged artery or a damaged drain that has no been clean. We are in danger of letting ourselves burst into a different person when harboring anger.
Great words Gary...let's not harbor anger.
DeleteHanging on to anger is not good for our health. Always better to release anger ,not harbor it.
DeleteSo very true and good word pictures on point 2, Gary.
Delete1. I believe the enemy would use everything and anything at his disposal. Any good fisherman can tell you that it takes different types of bait, lures and tactics to catch one.
ReplyDelete2. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:9
Reminds me of James 1:19-20 "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires."
Amen, brother. Christ never once used a lure or a hook to fill Peter's nets or feed thousands with a few fish. Only the enemy would seek to lure us away. We mustn't take the bait, for it is not from God.
DeleteGood cross reference Robert!
Delete1. I have to say right now that it is work for me. I will be riding solo soon and I am trying to prepare the best I can. It is very time consuming.
ReplyDelete2. Ecclesiastes 7:14 (NIV) When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.
I pray tat we look to God in the good and bad times. Perhaps God's is trying to strengthen us or tell us something by allowing things to happen in this fallen world. So get up everyday and thank Him for the day He created. God bless.
Amen Sam great practice to give thanks everyday to God.
DeleteGreat advice, Sam. In everything, give God thanks.
DeleteAmen, brother. A grateful heart makes a good throne for a loving God. May He always be at the center of your stronghold, seated on the throne you have prepared for Him in your heart.
DeleteWork is a good thing, but sometimes it expands like yeast as we seek to make the dough :)
Delete1 Ways the enemy can stop me is in the form of sleep. Sometimes I fall asleep before blogging. Another is work. Lots of work right now and sometimes work throws off my schedule.
ReplyDelete2. .Ecclesiastes 7:14 When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this:God has made the one as well as the other.
This tells us to accept what we have in life because only God knows are destiny. No sense in worrying about things we cant control.
Chuy, I commend you that you have endured and prevailed against these two mighty temptations this week. May the Lord give you strength and the perseverance to continue on. One more day brother and you will have become unstoppable this week against the enemy and for your Lord.
DeleteFirst, we give God thanks for good sound sleep and for the God given abilities to perform at our job. Then, we offer our time for studying his word. Chuy, I've been reading your comments on the blog. You, are unstoppable!
DeleteGreat to see that you've got some good brothers pulling for you Chuy. You will do great things and surely triumph.
DeleteJas.5.11. As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
DeleteKeep persevering Chuy!!!
1) What do you think the enemy might seek to use to get you to quit the mission and battle we are in?
ReplyDeleteThe enemy is already trying different things to shake me from my commitment. I catch myself in rationalizing that there are other things that I can do with my time that are just as important as this mission and battle. I know the enemy tries to use discouragement on me when I see other M3 brothers frequently missing in action and then thinking that he has won in those skirmishes with my brothers. I sense that if I don't start taking action to guard my health, I may loose it along with the energy and physical strength to do what I should and want to do. I know the enemy would want that to happen to me and probably has been opposing my efforts to get started.
2) Ecclesiastes 7:8b ...patience is better than pride.
I think this phrase is universally true all the time because it reflects what God is and what He does. Only God is deserving of glory because of who He is. He has the right to demand that everyone glorify Him now. But He is patient with all to allow for repentance and the receiving of mercy and grace. When we choose pride over patience, we can carelessly exalt ourselves over others and this greatly displeases God.
David, let's watch each others back. There will be no backsliding for either one of us . Let's be strong and courageous so that it becomes contagious within M3.
DeleteWAR takes its toll on all of us, brother, and we have had a few of our brothers fall in battle. I have stumbled myself. I have felt the sting of the enemy's forked tongue and believed his lies, but I have seen the power of God working in the hearts of all those men who have answered the call and reported to the front these past months. They have lifted me up, dusted me off, put my weapon back in my hand, and pointed me to the battle line, We cannot turn tail and run. One lost battle must not shake our resolve to wage WAR on the enemy. I will pray for your health, brother, and should you need it, there isn't a man in this army who wouldn't lift you up and help you finish the fight.
DeleteWhat can I add to what Louie and Osiris have said Dave?!
DeleteYou are one of the most faithful men in M3. You are a tremendous example, your have rich things to share and you are a great encourager. I like the plaque I saw which stated, "I will not give the devil the satisfaction of being discouraged." You are an officer in the ranks. Lead on! Men are looking to you.
Dave you been such an encouragement to so many people ! Thanks.
Delete1) I believe the enemy would use the financial struggles to attack me and make me quit.
ReplyDelete2) “Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.”
Ecclesiastes 7:9
I agree with you, brother. This is one of those things that can put a strain on our relationship with God, but we have a loving Father who has plans to prosper us. If He brings us to it, He will bring us through it. I will keep you in my prayers.
DeleteRicardo, just remember. God gives us good time and bad. We will give God thanks at all seasons. Our heavenly father will always watch over us.
DeleteI appreciate you sharing that and I wish I could solve that problem for you and for so many other men.
DeleteI think the financial struggle is the tip of the iceberg at times. The enemy whispers lies in the midst of our bills about the character of God. This is what we must especially fight against. Fight on Ricardo! We need you. You are a mighty warrior!
Remember what Pastor Mark preaching 10-10-80. Teith 10% save 10% and live on 80%. I have a hard time doing that but with God's help I'm going to try doing it.
Delete1. The enemy has already tried this one once, and will likely take advantage of it again: A few weeks back, when my wife and I learned that our latest attempt at becoming parents had failed, fear crept into my heart. What if our attempts never work, I thought. What if we simply aren't meant to have children? That fear festered inside me throughout my workday until it became anger. How is it that I can practically raise other people's children in my role as teacher and mentor, but God won't bless me with children of my own? Why, when so many people out there are terrible parents and have children so easily, must my wife and I jump through hoops to bring children into a loving home? That anger quickly turned to wrath and I lashed out at God, shouting words I regret ever left my mouth. The enemy knows this vulnerability of mine. He knows that it is when I feel powerless to change my situation that I am most prone to his lies. As it was when my father slipped away in front of me, so too have the last few months been. I feel powerless, and for a guy who is used to finding solutions to his problems, no matter how challenging, this situation is a crack in my armor.
ReplyDelete2. Ecclesiastes 7:14 "When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future." I need to stamp this verse on my forehead. It is easy to be grateful when things are going well...it is not so easy when the troubles that come with bad times cloud your mind. I need to remember to praise God in the storm. He will provide sunny days to remind me of His love, but he will also have me weather my share of storms to remind me of His grace. A Father who does not prepare His son to confront the troubles of the world dooms His child. It is when things are at their worst that my faith should be at its best.
3. Yesterday, I gave out a Greatest Mini Movies card to a colleague at work. She caught me off guard when out of nowhere she asked me why the world could be so cruel, and why when good people try to do good there is always someone or something to bring them down. Not knowing how to answer her adequately, I wrote down the link to a song that speaks to this matter, Matthew West's "Do Something", which I have heard on K-Love. To the note on which I had written the link, I attached a card, and told her as I handed it to her, "If we do not reflect God's love, who will? It is up to us to be the light that shines through the darkness. This might be a good place to start." Because we were at work, this was a quick exchange just as our morning meeting started. She hasn't said anything regarding that morning, since, but I have seen a renewed optimism and determination in her. I hope what little I did for her helped.
Osiris, great quick thinking when your colleague caught you off guard.
DeleteOsiris, I know you are very much filled with the wisdom of God and your walk with Jesus is a close one. God knows your situation and your request. Only he knows the right time. Be patient and start by giving thanks for the gift he is sending you and your wife.
DeleteI so appreciate the encouragement you have given others again today on the blog Osiris. And I also appreciate your transparency in sharing your struggle with God. You are the real deal. You mentioned praising God in the storm, so I imagine you have heard that very good song by Casting Crowns- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUWbmtbzDno
DeleteIt's a favorite of mine because it doesn't promise a happy tomorrow, but promises us God in our storms. May He become our all in all. I'm with you.
Brother Osiris stay strong brother , the lord is going to use you my brother. He may not have blessed you with a child but I'm sure he will bless you in many other ways. I'll keep you and your wife in my prayers, god bless you brother
Delete1.- The enemy knows what our individual weaknesses are and will use will use different things against us. My weaknesses he could use to attack me are lust, myself confidence and procrastination.
ReplyDelete2.- Ecclesiastes 7:4 A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time. When I first read this I thought why would a wise person think a lot about death? Then it hit me, he’s probably not thinking about his death but about what is coming after death. The wise person is really thinking about his next life and spending eternity with God. While the fool is just concerned about having a good time now and may regret it when he finds out where he will spend eternity.
Thanx for the honesty brother! The enemy tries to get me like that too. Together, with God, we can beat that enemy down! ;)
DeleteGeorge, my good friend. Before I joined M3, my life had voids . In these empty spaces the enemy would settle in and pour in thoughts and lies to misguide me. I would pray and ask God to place somewhere to fill me with his word. God placed in in M3. Now, as much as I can , I keep these voids filled with God's word. Let's not give the enemy any space in our lives. The first time you and I met, I didn't say very much , did I?
DeleteI also appreciate your honesty George. Truth is, we're all there, some just have a hard time admitting it.
DeleteThinking about one's death may also aid him to improve his present focus.
1. I think the enemy will use lustfully and porn to try to bring me down. Temptation is what my enemy likes to throw right at my head!
ReplyDelete2. Ecclesiastes 7:9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.
Stay strong Philip! I know you can beat him.
DeleteWhat are the things that trigger that temptation Phil? Guard against such and counter the lies associated with such.
DeleteThe enemy is a liar my brother, but god works best when we are at our weakest.
DeleteKeep your strength Phil. Praying for you bro :)
Delete1. Tiredness. The lack of rest and peace, forever grabbing and not attaining.
ReplyDeleteI think of the war tactic used by the Vietnamese while there were encampments in the jungle. They would shoot, set off alarms, blow up a defense position, landmine, etc. They would simply use the fatigue as a device against the US soldiers to overcome the defenses. Increasing their odds and eventually overcoming the outpost.
Maybe I’m just a tired parent with toddlers tripping-up my defenses, making me weak. My ability to maintain focus and not just give into my ego on those moments.
But when I’m alone. Without the view of others, without people backing me up- depression and vulnerability are common.
In those times I need a garrison, a reinforcement a prayer-sniper getting my back when I don’t see the attack-but am more vulnerable.
2. “The end of the matter is better than it’s beginning, and patience is better than pride.”
I always like revelation more than genesis, just saying.
Great insight regarding war tactics and fatigue. We all need to be aware of this and beware.
DeleteI really like the imagery of praying for others as being a prayer sniper for them. I will seek to watch your back in this way. Makes me want to pray and so I will now for you.
1. Lust but mostly fear and anxiety. He wants to hold me back and not pursue my dreams and God's vision for me.
ReplyDelete2. “The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning, While the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure.”
Ecclesiastes 7:4 NASB
While fools are pursuing empty pleasure the are missing out on the truly meaningful things in life. Giving to others, friendship, and relationship with God and church. Wise men know death and judgment are coming. They see there lives as meaningful and that there is life beyond this one. They live on a bigger and higher plain. They are accountable and use time effectively.
God bless you Nick! I have suffered through that before, stay strong and most importantly keep your heart protected by the Lord
DeleteFight Nic fight! I believe in you!
ReplyDeleteYour ending comments got me thinking. I think we need a better name for church. with my M3 mindset, I'm leaning toward Battalion. Church meant assembly. They didn't go to church; they assembled. We are to gather to prepare for battle- thus a battalion. What battalion are you a part of? Oak Lawn, Midway, etc? Me thinks it won't catch on though. :)
1) I think the enemy could effectively use discouragement or laziness to potentially derail me in the future. I see tendencies in myself that lend me to think that. Sometimes, if I feel something in doing is not effective in my life, such as prayer, I feel like stopping in discouragement, or when I do, it feels like a chore. This in turn grows a laziness to doing the things that can keep me spiritually healthy. Something I always to keep in check.
ReplyDelete2) The verse I chose is:
Ecclesiastes 7:9 “Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools."
I love the connection this makes to foolishness. Sometimes you need to hear it in this context, because in the heat of the moment, it is easy to feel fully justified for your anger. :)
It reminds me of the verse:
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”
James 1:19-20 ESV
Seeking the Righteousness of God. Definitely something that I have been meditating in today, and plan to for some time to come!
Very good thoughts on the verses, Will! Both verses you listed here are great!
Delete1: I think the only way the enemy has to discourage me, would be through my wife. Its like every time we are enjoying the day, she always finds something to say that just hits that button that gets me heated. I tent to fall into the tricks and manipulations that the enemy sets. But I know I have the strength and wisdom to over look all of it.
ReplyDelete2: Ecclesiastes 7:3 Frustration is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart.
Its better to show your emotions then to keep them inside.
Good advise to showing your emotions brother, I tend to withhold mind at times, I need to improve on that.
Delete1.- No question it would be the false prophet if it were to happen in my time, who will come down from the sky in a fiery blaze to proclaim to be our Lord Savior Jesus. Many will succumb to his treacherous lies and will be mislead to follow him.
ReplyDeleteAnother will be a inviting naked seductively gorgeously woman inviting me to indulge in her pleasures.
Yes I am forewarned and will prepare and pray I conquer these onslaughts and not be corruptible, and flee to the hills.
2.- Ecc. 7:8
The end of the matter is better than its beginning and patience is better than pride.
Better to have experienced and know the conclusion of a crisis, a situation than to first be slammed with it and than having to scurry around to find a direction or answer to it.
Beginning = uncertain, creation, Adam & Eve
Ending= conclusion, eternal life, Kingdom of Heaven
All this while waiting and bearing patiently through this hardship time. Therefore in it's conclusion one knows the outcome, good or bad?
Matt. 10:22
You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
Rom. 2:7
To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give internal life.
Amen my brother, just remember brother falling into temptation will only please the flesh, in the end you'll still be left feeling empty. Trust in our father brother, the lord will show you the way.

ReplyDelete1) Fear, doubts, envy, pride (especially when I get hurt by friends), and loneliness are weak areas for me. However, it is always important to remember this....
ReplyDelete1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
2) Ecclesiastes 7:11 "Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun."
A very true statement.
1. I think that the one area that that the enemy would use is my lack of confidence and doubtfulness. I am a mostly confident person but with a reserved personality so not many people can tell. However that confidence has taken years to develop due to so many struggles that God has pulled me through and even though my confidence say God will pull you through this the other part of me says "but what if...?" In such instances I have verses ready as a confidence booster but I still know it's my weakest area.
ReplyDelete2.Ecclesiastes 7:14 When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other.
Regardless of the situation, God is in control. Praise him when everything is going well but don't forget to feel his presence and to praise God when times get tough.
Wow Mike. I'm sure there were great obstacles to push past for you to blog today and by 2:00 am in the morning. I know it was not easy with your schedule. I commend you for your great effort to accomplishing this. When you put your mind and heart and will into it, with God's help you can accomplish anything. And that helps build to confidence also.
Delete1. You pose a good question? If i knew i would be waiting and trying to avoid it. The enemy can use many different situations to make me stop following our Lord. We are all weak at some point but when do we break? I would think that i have multiple weak points. I guard myself and avoid any situation that can make me fall. I always keep my guard up and with the help of others i can be strong.
ReplyDelete2. Ecclesiastes 7:9 Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools.
Here is a passage that his home. I had and still have anger issues. Over the years i have learned to control my temper. Anger is such an ugly emotion to display. The older i get the more i learn to control it but when I'm in a situation with a grown adult that has no common sense, I see my patience running thin. I have corrected myself many times with the grace of God so i don't explode.
1. Pride -- I have always struggled with this, thinking more highly of myself when. Pride comes before a fall! God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble.
ReplyDelete2. Ecc. 7:2a says" It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting,". -- another struggle for me, to attend a family or friend's wake or funeral. I always feel at a loss for words and feel awkward at those places, so I am always tempted to bypass them all the time. When I think about it though, God can really use ths season in people's lives to draw them to Christ especially as they think about themselves dying. I will be more open to attending these sort of occasions.
Pride, but aside from that is distractions of any sort that can cause me away from my family, from staying in the word, or even keeping me away from ministry. Knowing what my priorities are &keep them aligned and not be chaotic.
ReplyDeletehttp://bible.com/111/ecc.7.5-9.niv It is better to heed the rebuke of a wise person than to listen to the song of fools. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Yes, always try to keep that cool, mellow attitude but sometimes that can quickly dry up in midst of a heated situation. It is scripture that reminds me to always "be quick to listen, slow to speak", then usually comes with understanding the other person.
1. The enemy is always in attack mode and that is why I need to stay alert and not fall for his traps. I know I am a sinner and my nature is to sin always but now that I walk with Jesus I must conquer my sinful nature to live a life pleasing to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I pray for wisdom and strength to overcome sin and armored myself with the word of God. But if I fall, I will repent and continue to fight the good fight.
ReplyDelete2. "A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth
It is better to go to a house of mourning than go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man" Ecclesiastes 7:1-2. I had made many mistakes in my young adult life but I know God has given me a second change and now I want serve and seek his wisdom. Amen.
