We have now come to the very end of our great study through the mentors manual, Proverbs. We've learned and shared so much of our reflections and past life experiences. This very last portion of Proverbs is amazing! I can't do it justice. I did find a great Bible scholar who can do it justice though, and I would like to share his excellent article about it. It is by Dr. Kenneth Way. He is an assistant professor of Bible exposition at Talbot School of Theology. He holds a Ph.D. in the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near East from Hebrew Union College. You'll note that he also gives us a wonderful overview of the entire book of Proverbs and how it all ties together here at the end. Here is his online article entitled, "The God of Noble Character?"
The second half of the book concludes with this same metaphor — wisdom personified as a woman. But chapter 31 does not present wisdom as a young eligible maiden like in chapter 8. It rather presents her as the settled and mature wife of a man who has it all (see 31:11, 23).
Personification is not the only literary device that is employed in this poem. Many scholars have suggested that the poem is also chiastic, meaning that the segments in the first half correspond in reverse order to the segments in the second half. (I, Dave Garratt, have inserted an example of this below, created by Duane Garrett.)
When such interconnections are observed, a striking detail is revealed — that there is a central verse of the poem which stands alone: “Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land” (Prov. 31:23; cf., 12:4). Interestingly, this verse is not about the wife at all. It is a statement about wisdom’s husband, who is an honorable community leader. Here we see the ideal picture of a wise man!
Now there is one more literary device that deserves attention in this masterful poem. Proverbs 31:10–31 is an alphabetic acrostic, which means that the initial letters of each verse form the complete Hebrew alphabet. One of the effects that the alphabetic acrostic form can have upon readers is the impression of comprehensiveness, so that a given subject may be summarized from A to Z, so to speak.
So what is summarized here? It can only be wisdom itself. The book of Proverbs concludes with a poem that aims to review and illustrate the teachings of the whole book with a metaphor of the woman who was introduced in chapter 8. It is therefore no coincidence that both the “wife of noble character” and wisdom itself are described as more valuable than rubies (Prov. 3:15; 8:11; 31:10). The wife of noble character is in fact wisdom itself.
In this poem one can see an example of wisdom — an illustration of life as it ought to be. There is fulfillment, prosperity, balance, justice, etc. This metaphor of a man who is married to an industrious wife is an ideal picture of the man who chose wisely by embracing Lady Wisdom.
I would suggest that this perfect picture of wisdom is ultimately a revelation of God himself. Proverbs 2:6 shows that God is the source of wisdom, and Proverbs 8:22–31 clearly teaches that wisdom preceded the creation of the world (see also Prov. 3:19–20; Job 28:23–27). Just as the Old Testament reveals God’s wisdom through personification, so the New Testament reveals God’s wisdom through the ultimate personification — the man Jesus Christ (see Matt. 11:19; 12:42; 1 Cor. 1:30; Col. 2:3). The point of the poem in Proverbs 31 is to reveal God’s nature by employing an appealing metaphor that beautifully epitomizes the breadth and depth of wisdom.
So we return again to the notion that Proverbs 31 does not merely reveal a model of the perfect wife. Actually, it reveals much more. It is a portrayal of God’s perfect wisdom in action. As such, it is something that all people — both men and women — must acquire. If God’s people are to become like God and acquire his characteristics (see Eph. 5:1), then they should be a people preoccupied with the pursuit of wisdom.
So where do we start? Wisdom literature repeatedly instructs us to begin with “the fear of the Lord” (Prov. 9:10; 15:33; Job 28:28; Eccl. 12:13). It is not surprising, therefore, that the book of Proverbs both opens (Prov 1:7) and closes — at the end of our poem (Prov. 31:30) — with the fear of the Lord.
Now, I (Dave Garratt) want to close by including a short video exalting the God of wisdom.

"Amen! Praise and glory and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!" Rev.7:12.
I have enjoyed going through Proverbs with you. I hope you've learned a lot too. What a great mentor's manual!
1.- Share one thing you've learned today or from the past several weeks in Proverbs.
2.- Share about an opportunity you've had over the last week to share the gospel or pass along a Greatest Mini-movies card.
I learned something very valuable that I shared with one of the verses I chose in chapter 24 verse 6. Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers. (Proverbs 24:6 NIV) The need for planning our strategy in life as well as having the council of wise people to ensure victory.
ReplyDeleteI like how you described the contrast between Lady Wisdom and Lady Folly. Reminds me of my current situation as a single guy in the dating world. I may have more than one option at a time but in a situation like that I have to evaluate and really consider what the best choice for me would be. Do I go for this girl for such and such reason or do I go for the other girl for such and such reason. So when applied to life. It is crucial to evaluate every situation and option.
2- I have not shared any cards over he past week.
Having a strategy and plan is important for almost every area of life. Seeking counsel, wisdom, guidance is very important to helping be successful, especially when you're seeking these things from the Lord Our God and His people.
DeleteSo glad you are with us and Luis. May the Lord bless you with a great wife.
DeleteThe dating world can certainly be difficult to navigate. Some days it just seems like a minefield. You can't seem to step in any direction without risking your life. At some point, after tripping several mines myself, I prayed for God's guidance. My own best judgement of a person's character had simply not sufficed to help me avoid some unfortunate errors. Proverbs 31 is a great reference point to finding "the one", but ultimately, you will find that "the one" is she who fears and loves THE ONE who makes all things possible. A woman who loves the Lord will best know how to love one of His sons, and she will be blessed with a husband who loves her in return as Christ loves his church. You're on the right path brother.
DeleteI pray that you will find the godly woman that awaits you.
DeleteGod bless you Luis in your walk with the lord, I believe that what you are learning now will have a wonderful reward in your future. I did not know all this but I can understand and sometimes I wish I would have come to the lord earlier before I got married or had kids, but we learn through our actions that have consequences, good or bad.
Delete1. I loved learning about the genre of the scripture today. A chiastic poem. That is a good study to go through.
ReplyDelete2. I was busy giving cards away this weekend, but one of the guys I've been meeting with for a few months now, told me that he has been listening to pastor marks sermons. He can't go to church at the moment, but it was encouraging to hear he's consistently being connected. I gave him a mini movies card and said here's some movies you can watch as well. Simple, but I jumped on the opportunity since he was/is open.
Eddie you are a great student of Scripture! I am so proud of you for the way that you reach out and minister to so many. You are a great example!
DeleteGlad to see you are always on mission. God bless.
DeleteIt's awesome to always see you planting seeds to advance his kingdom. Keep fighting the good fight bro. God bless.
DeleteThat's great Eddie I just don't know how you guys do it or how those opportunities come about but great to hear about them
DeleteThat's an excellent way to give a card, Eddie! Good timing too. :)
Delete1. I enjoyed the delivery structure of Proverbs, the passing of wisdom between Father and son. Of all the books in the Bible, Proverbs speaks directly to me. It is not a series of episodic accounts like we find in both the Old and New Testament. It is a one on one conversation with God. As all Scripture is divinely inspired, we know the true origin of every bit of wisdom presented across the 31 proverbs. For a man who lost his father at an early age and had a limited opportunity to receive wisdom from a fatherly figure, Proverbs is a comforting arm around my shoulder and a reassurance that the wisdom I need to become the man God has made me to be is always within reach, better even than a phone call or visit away. We are never too far from God's love and grace. He patiently waits for us to turn to Him for guidance...to seek His light through our darkest moments.
ReplyDelete2. Because my interaction with people outside a secular workplace is limited to my wife and this blog, it can be challenging to share the Gospel except at home and with you, brothers. This is one of the reasons I am most grateful for this group and for the ability to converse with other men, even through print, who love God and are seeking the woman of wisdom every day. I have yet to give out a greatest mini movies card this week, but I am always on the lookout for an opportunity to share these with everyone from the barista behind the counter to the people in line at the grocery checkout.
God bless you, brothers. May the spirit of the Lord walk with you throughout your day. May your feet lead you to the woman of wisdom. May your eyes be blind to the woman of folly. May you seek, first, the Kingdom of God that we are stewards over on this Earth.
As always, it is a pleasure reading your posts. I pray that both of us take the opportunity to share God's love to others.
DeleteI echo Sam's sentiments Osiris! Let's get some brothers together for a walk soon.
DeleteGod is ever so patient. He waits for us ,even in our sinful nature. Good post , Osiris.
DeleteAmen sir thanks
DeleteGod is ever so patient. He waits for us ,even in our sinful nature. Good post , Osiris.
DeleteGreat post Osirus He is a Father to the fatherless. May God bless you and speak through you. You have a great opportunity to be a light to fellow teachers and students. We need godly teachers in our schools.
Delete1. I like that we at M3 have a vision (Prov. 29:18) and we are on a mission to complete it. God lovingly shares His wisdom to change the lives of those that ask for it and those that we share it with.
ReplyDelete2. I requested my son and a group I text to watch a mini-movie. I followed up today and will see if they have watched any. Thanks for the reminder to always be on mission.
Way to be a leader bro to your son! God bless you bro.
DeleteI'm smiling reading your good words Sam! :)
DeleteThanks for sharing Sam God bless you and your son
DeleteSam , your words ring loud and clear. I spent lots of time praying and asking for wisdom . God gives to those who ask.
DeleteSam , your words ring loud and clear. I spent lots of time praying and asking for wisdom . God gives to those who ask.
DeleteNeedless to say, there is a lot of wisdom written in Proverbs. Although I learned from my reading, It was good to be prompted to meditate on a verse. Can't read Proverbs without stopping to think about what the author is saying and how a verse/s applies to life. Usually I mediate on a point that is made through a story, chapter, or paragraph and a verse that really drives that point for me. But most, if not all verses in Proverbs, can stand alone and tell a whole story.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Rick!
DeleteRick, I like the way you bring out your thoughts. Continue sharing , brother.
DeleteRick, I like the way you bring out your thoughts. Continue sharing , brother.
Delete1. I learned today that we should search for wisdom. It's awesome how they used a woman as wisdom. I never really red through proverbs and understood it. Thanks dave for taking us through this book and helping me understand it better. I learned a lot about myself. Can't wait for what's next.
ReplyDelete2. I was able to pass out 2 mini movie cards when I was out in Florida. I gave one to my sister and told her to share with her boyfriend. I also gave one to this guy who was walking in the middle of the street. Not sure if he was homeless but he seemed like he needed good news.
Glad you enjoyed our journey through Proverbs James. I did too.
DeleteI commend you. Even when you were on vacation, you were on mission!
James, Glad you are doing well. Stay hungry for the word bro.
DeleteNice James and yes I agree with your comment
DeleteI agree with you, James. I also got a lot out of this study!
DeleteI agree with you, James. I also got a lot out of this study!
Delete1. It's a wealth of knowledge if we can put it into practice.
ReplyDelete2. When I was ubering I gave one to a young man who was going to be married in a week.
Great wedding present George!
Delete1: I learned a lot about wisdom the book of proverbs is filled with it.
ReplyDelete2: I actually haven't had time since Sunday to pass out any cards, I been busy with my yard work. But I sure will get to it.
You're armed and dangerous again Jose!
Delete1. Proverbs is a great book of knowledge and wisdom. So much to grasp and learn that I believe this book can easily take months to fully grasp it full potential. It's been a great book to study and share with my friends and family.
ReplyDelete2. Recently I have a co-worker that likes to hang out and hide in my area. We started to talk and I was letting him know about the great works that God had done in my life. He opened up and told me that he is a believer and his father is a minister. He is lost and is trying to clean his life to get back to church. I explained to him that he is ready and God will take him the way he is. I explained to him that he will never be perfect and let God change you one step at a time. I gave him a movie card and explained to that he can download "Straight Talk" on his mobile phone. Today, if I see him I'm going to do a follow up.
Excellent Horacio! And congratulations again on earning your Unstoppable award pin.
DeleteI also shared the great info I got from Proverbs.
DeleteI also shared the great info I got from Proverbs.
Delete1 I think the idea of keeping better control of a temper and of words spoken was a reoccurring topic that I think everyone could always work on.
ReplyDelete2 I sent the link to one of my brothers, my dad and a friend from my first job.
Same here. Trying not to be quick to react in anger is something I need to work on.
DeleteYou're right, Ed. I almost lost my control when I lost my post with a flick of a buttom
DeleteYou're right, Ed. I almost lost my control when I lost my post with a flick of a buttom
DeleteVery good Ed!
DeleteExactly, Ed. That is what stood out to me too.
Delete1. Proverbs is advice for how we should find a wife and how we should live as married people. Success in marriage can only be possible if we behave according to what God expects us to. It specifically tells us how to choose a mate and how to treat each other in marriage.
ReplyDelete2. I gave the last of my cards from before our last meeting on a restaurant counter where people leave all their business cards.
Great book on how to in marrage.
DeleteGreat book on how to in marrage.
DeleteGood Chuy!
DeleteYour right Chuy. The Bible provides the how and what to do to be successful in our marriages and in life and also shows us where to get the strength, power and ability to do those things through our connection and relationship with Jesus.
DeleteThis is the second time I'm doing this post. Lost the first one by accidental touch of a button. It was kind of long and may not remember half of it . Anyway maybe this will help me. Proverbs 25:28. If you cannot control anger, you are as helpless as a city without walls , open to attack.
ReplyDeleteTake away the anger and concentrate on the sweetness of wisdom that is good for the soul.
Yesterday I had a chance to share M3, mini movies and New Life with My brother. He was a bit down but he cheered up with our talk. Before I left , I prayed for his health recovery. Please continue praying for my brother.
ReplyDeleteYes Lord, we pray for Louie's younger brother Rick for his physical and spiritual health. Continue to use Louie in his life.
DeletePS- What happened at 9:41 PM? That is the time that all of your comments to other brothers were duplicated. Let's figure this out an fix it. Please call me.
Delete1. God presents himself to us and makes his wisdom available to us as we seek him and his advice. There is nothing more valuable than what we learn through his word and apply it to every aspect of our lives--- as it discloses his will for us.
ReplyDelete2. I enjoy how receptive others have been to the mini movie cards and I will increase distribution
Jack, thank you for your posts. Always enjoy reading them.
DeleteJack, thank you for your posts. Always enjoy reading them.
DeleteYes indeed Jack.
DeleteI too have been pleased with the receptiveness of others to the minimovies cards.
Very true, Jack! :)
DeleteI really enjoyed the study on the book of Proverbs. Wish I had caught it from the begining. Thank you Dave . You're doing a great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Louie! Just for that you get the next month's for free :)
Delete1- I have learned a lot about what proverbs are, they are short, pithy statement of a general truth, one that condenses common experience into memorable form. I can understand most of why proverbs were made or experienced. Thanks Dave for clarifying day to day and everyone else for sharing their thoughts behind the verses. I can look back and reflect at myself, my interaction with others, my WIFE, wisdom and how it's viewed in proverbs and how we learn and walk with and in the lord's ways. I have seen my ups and downs. My feelings towards others and me. It is an awesome thing to know that if I run into any situation in my every day walk with God that I can look back to any verse in proverbs and refresh from nurturing thought. I have learned a lot which I have never know before.
ReplyDelete2- I have not shared this past week and for some reason have not had the righ opportunity to expand on that or recruitment, maybe recruitment is not my thing but I keep learning from others.
It was a great study!
DeleteIt was a great study!
DeleteSo glad you enjoyed the study too Guillermo and that you are with us despite your grueling schedule.
DeleteRecruiting is like working out a muscle. Most start out weak, but with repetitions, you get stronger.
1) I have learned a lot from proverbs, they are like a bunch of little wise sayings! But what I have learned or I should what it has made me, was a more devoted, trusting and faithful man of Christ. Reading and blogging has become a very important part of my life(daily routine), it's kinda like you wouldn't leave the house without a shirt or shoes, so why go to bed without reading, blogging and most importantly encouraging a brother.
ReplyDelete2) I have found it very amusing how when I begin to speak about how I am a man of Christ, people kinda take a step back and say "really! You don't look like you go to church?!" So I tell them "well how does a man who goes to church supposed to
Look?" (Awkward silence) lol
Ricardo, I agree with you 100%. In the morning I check for late night posts, catch the new blog. A night I post, reply and try to give an encouraging word. My TV is getting cobwebs.
DeleteRicardo, I agree with you 100%. In the morning I check for late night posts, catch the new blog. A night I post, reply and try to give an encouraging word. My TV is getting cobwebs.
DeleteAh you brought a big smile to my face Ricardo! Very good!
Delete1. I always learn a lot from Proverbs whenever I read it but this time I was more aware of the verses that discussed stubbornness and laziness regarding the passages I read since joining. I have never been a fan of change in my life with routine being a big part of my life so it was nice to be reminded that change is important and it is coming quickly so I need to be prepared.
ReplyDelete2. I didn't get a chance to blog yesterday since I didn't have access to the internet until today but God made up for it with the opportunity to share a bit of my life with a coworker last night. Whenever I go back home to Chicago he likes to check in with me to see how it went and during this time I got to share about my faith and the nature of my relationship with my fiancee since courting isn't really the norm anymore. I don;t have conversations like that very often as I am more of a reserved person but I am thankful that it happened.
Way to go Mike. I'm sure that is going to create more opportunities to speak with him. He may also become a good candidate to receive a Greatest Mini Movie card. May the Lord deepen and bless your friendship with your co-worker.
DeleteVery good Mike! It was so good to meet you and have you with us at Sunday's M3 meeting.
DeleteSo glad you took the opportunity to share some with your co-worker. Excellent!
Great post Mile, yeah routine is big for me too. I hear you brother!
Delete1. – Proverbs is the book of wisdom and pray to God to give me wisdom to make manly man. I thanked God for the opportunity to learn and to be part of this group of manly men. I take with me Proverbs 3:5-6, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Amen.
ReplyDelete2. – I need to follow up on some of the guys at work. Work in progress. Please pray for Richard, Mike and Trevor.
So glad to have you part of this band of brothers Oscar!
DeleteLord, we pray your work in the lives of Richard, Mike and Trevor. Please continue to use Oscar in their lives.
1- I've learned that proverbs is not a book of promise but of patchy sayings. Proverbs is a book written a long time ago but the verses in there are so relevant today. It's great to know that the bible never get old. It goes to show that Gods word will never pass away. Thanks Brother Dave for teaching us through the book of proverbs.
ReplyDelete2- I have been able to talk to some people about what God has done for me through out my life. It's amazing to see how people are open to know about Gods work in our lives. To God be the glory and Honor.
Amen keep up the good work brother!
DeleteThanks Vince!
DeleteMay the Lord continue to use you as a bright light shining into dark hearts.
1. As I was typing about my wife, I learned that I although I write my appreciation for her, I may not tell her often enough.
ReplyDelete2. I had an opportunity to share my testimony with a co-worker of mine. His family visited our workplace and through sharing something with his mother-in-law, he was intrigued. I had shared my interest in participating in our upcoming mission trip so he had questions.
Marcos, I hope you shared your appreciation with her. I know there are times when I take mine for granted and need to be better about showing her my appreciation.
DeleteExcellent Mark!
Delete1. Learned a more profound theology of Wisdom.
ReplyDelete2. Shared a few "Greatest mini-movies" cards with some brothers after service on Sunday.
Tremundo Roberto! :)
Delete1. There are two roads wisdom and folly. What woman will I love? It's a daily choice. I hope to be one of the elders at the city gate one day.
ReplyDelete2. I gave a card and shared my faith with my driving student Javier he is a high school physics teacher. We had a great connection. I told him I'm curious to see what he thinks about the videos. We might have lunch sometime.
good stuff brother!
DeleteAh, that is excellent Nic! Though your job has drawbacks, you are certainly blessed with a captive audience :)
DeleteSo glad you are taking advantage of opportunities and cultivating relationships.
1. Proverbs 13:23 > A poor mans field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away. Dave G called this “The Law of the Storm” and I found it to be so insightful that I have rethought about it lately. Posted by Dave G: “ Proverbs often stresses the law of the farm, that if you work hard, you can get ahead. But that proverb reminds us that "the law of the storm" can sweep away all of a farmer's hard work. "Injustice sweeps it away. Powerful storms can destroy big trees, big cars and big dreams.”
ReplyDeleteOur family went through a storm that was a financial crisis. With no steady income for a while, we feared that we could eventually loose the ownership of our home. We asked the Lord to make it somehow possible to for us to continue to make the mortgage payments. But we also prayed to release our ownership of our home into His hands, believing He would still provide shelter for us somehow if it was His will to take our house. To God be the glory. Our Lord provided sufficient income month by month, so that we never once missed a single mortgage payment. The law of the storm may still strike again, but we know without a doubt that Jesus is the Lord of the Storm. I've have also learned from this experience not to treasure possessions too much and don't hold them so tightly as to feel that I have to have them or deserve them.
2) My kid's had invited one of their younger high school neighbor friends in from outside to play a fun card game in our home this past Sunday evening. I chatted with him about his school plans before he went home. He told me he wanted to become a criminal physiologist. I shared with him about some things that the Bible teaches about the heart of man. He seemed to be in agreement with what I told him then he claimed to be sort of agnostic. I reached into my shirt pocket and pulled out a Greatest Mini Movie card from the stack I took from our M3 meeting. I told him that I had something that might interest him about God. I asked him to watch a few of the mini movies and tell me what he thinks of them the next time I we see each other. He really liked the cover scene on the card and said he would watch them.
Dave, it's great that you're changing your feelings about possessions. It's something I've been working on, it's hard to change the attitude of keeping up with the Jones.
DeleteSo glad you liked that blog on the law of the storm Dave. We both have gone through some painful financial ordeals.
DeleteWay to take advantage of an opportunity to sow some good seeds.
1. Wow i learned so much from Proverbs this last month!
ReplyDeleteTrust the Lord
Guard your heart and eyes
Keep a path far from the harlots
Not to talk too much
All about quarelsome wives ;)
control my anger
be kind to the poor
virtuous wives
and so much more but im very sleepy ;)
2. I have been working side jobs every chance i get. At these jobsites there is alot of foul talk and anger that is spread around. I try to put on Christian music and share some of Jesus's teachings with them while we work.
Philip, the Christian music is a good idea. I do that too, the woman who use to sit in the office next to me uses a lot of foul language so I listened to KLOVE to block her out. I moved an office over so I don't hear her as much but listening to Christian music puts me in a better mood.
DeleteVery good Phil. Hope the minimovies also help you sow good seed in those men.
DeleteGood post, Phil! In addition, good job being a light at your workplace!
Delete1.- The last few weeks studying Proverbs has been very interesting. Seeing how God’s instructions for life written thousands of years ago still apply to today.
ReplyDelete2.- I didn’t pass out any cards until today. When we were at small group I gave out a couple to Julian. I know he’ll look at the movies and I can also see him passing them along to someone looking for a relationship with God.
Alright George! And thanks for being a good encourager to your brothers on the blog.
Delete1) I liked how we got to slowly go over the chapters of Proverbs. It helps me appreciate the book more. During the time we have gone through the book, I was reminded how important it is to control my mouth. :)
ReplyDelete2) I have not passed out any cards. A good opportunity to do so hasn't come to me yet.
Alex, I liked going slow too. It gave me more time to think about the readings.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed Proverbs Alex.
DeleteIf I was a wealthy man, I'd give you $100 for each card you give out the rest of the week. I'd bet you would find or create lot's of opportunities :) Start by leaving one for someone. Work the muscle and you will become strong at this. A year from now, you will have so many stories to tell.
1. Right now is definitely learning chiastic structure and pattern that scriptures holds!! Yet again God blow my mind away on His Word. Definitely gives me another angle and perspective for when I read.
ReplyDeleteAnother quick one is I believe the 3 ways of learning... a) learning by explanation, b) learning by examples of others and c) by experiencing oneself (learning the hard way). I thoroughly enjoy the wisdom, guidance our Heavenly gives us.
2. This past Friday at work I had the opportunity to meet family from Texas and moving to Illinois. (To keep it short) through over hearing their personal issues somewhat and looking around their place found the chance to speak about Christ and the church (Nl Midway). I definitely talk in depth with oldest son as I continue to work sharing my testimony and sharing a little light of the Gospel itself to him, seemed like he needed encouragement. Definitely invited to church as he will make his decision whether to go back to Texas or stay in the next two weeks? Fyi they followed a pastor from Texas to come and serve with him.
Very good my friend and evangelist!

ReplyDelete1.- That God's love for us is everlasting and He has provided to us, a source of life guiding principles for us to attain by reading and abiding to his instructions in the book of Proverbs. We will always be within His reach through proverbs.
Proverbs liberates us, giving us;
Wisdom, humility, freedom, peace, joy, contentment, character, discipline, growth, comfort, parenting skills, accountability, marital skills, approval.
Giving those who choose a way of life that is right n just and pleasing to our Lord.
2.- Last Thur n Friday I was able to share our blog site and give a friend and Christian co-worker Jose a mini movie card, also at our Wednesday morning bible study group I gave cards out to brothers Milo n Mike. Will follow up tomorrow at our morning group.
Excellent Armando!
Delete1. I really focused on Prov. 29:18: "Where there is NO Vision (or God's Revelation/Word) the people perish (are unrestrained), but happy is he who keeps the law." I had a chance to conduct and teach a bible study within the past 10 days on this specific verse, and I focused much attention to the importance of knowing and obeying God's Word or His revelation to mankind. I copied and pasted my comments from a week ago, since this verse really stood out to me in my life, in this specific season that I am in. See below:
ReplyDeleteProv. 29:18: "Where there is NO Vision (or God's Revelation/Word) the people perish (are unrestrained), but happy is he who keeps the law."
-When people are unrestrained, what do we see? Chaos! A bunch of self-willed people wanting their own ways, it is not a Vision of Order or Peace or Security. Those are the benefits of Vision being applied. Without Revelation or Vision from God, the people will be unrestrained & will be abandoned to their own Vision for life.
Example: Consider the People of Israel vs. all the surrounding nations. The Jews were the only people in the world who had Vision & the written Word from God. God told them about life and its purpose, how to relate to others, information about Himself, and He gave them Vision & Principles for every area of life. (The Law Code was very extensive). For a long time the United States even had it’s Judicial System based on some Old Testament Laws. If God would NOT have given Vision, the people would have been unrestrained like all the surrounding nations.
-Vision from God functions as a restraint from our selfish, destructive desires of our flesh. It actually protects us from ourselves. At the same time, I want to insert something very important. I am not saying that all we need is Law without Relationship, because Law without Relationship breeds Rebellion! We live our lives thru a Relationship with Jesus Christ. We live by Faith in His promises, which give us hope for eternity & give us direction and guidance for today’s living. We have the Word of God and we have the Holy Spirit (if you are a Christian) living inside of you, who reveals which words of God that need to be applied to some particular part of our lives. A couple of the blessings of Vision & Revelation = Security and Direction.
Security: Whenever we have Vision or when our family has Vision, we have a secure environment because you know what you are supposed to do, and what to be held accountable for.
Also, the Blessing of direction, which eliminates confusion, indecision, & provides a basis for Faith and confidence. Without Vision, you can expect confusion, expect conflict, and the longer any group goes without Vision, the more problems can snowball & get bigger.
-God’s people should be distinguished from those in the World. Those in the World live unrestrained lives; they do what they want, when they want. They have an empty life, always looking for something to satisfy them. On the other hand, people of God should live with a sense of direction and a sense of purpose & they find peace & happiness in that being fulfilled in their lives and in walking with God by His Revelation!!!
2. No passing out of cards this week, but plenty of encouragement and talking about God to many of my clients :)
Very good Israel. I remember reading those good words of yours before. Glad you had the opportunity to teach such.
Delete1. The attitude is where our quality of life is decided.
ReplyDelete2. The most recent was sharing the card with the gas station attendant as I payed for gas.
Great job Dave! I hope you are doing well :)
DeleteI got to get bolder in giving those cards out at times like those.
Glad you have such a good attitude Dave- one of the best I know.
DeleteGood sowing!
1) Learning the intricacies of the poem was a fascinating read. Even the proposal of The proverbs 31 women as "wisdom" was laid out so well. I really liked how Proverbs was broken down into something you can say in one sentence "A father’s instructions to his son about the pursuit of wisdom and the fear of the Lord". I am so sad to be ending the study of Proverbs. It feels like I gained so much insight from such a powerful book.
ReplyDelete2) I didn't have an opportunity to give a mini-movie card this past week, but I had a chance to talk to a guy at work about why I put my faith and trust in Jesus Christ. We didn't get a chance to get into too much detail about what keeps him from believing, but he definitely is interested in hearing what I have to say about God, so I will keep pressing on. I get a laugh when I am walking down the hall, and he calls out "Hey William, you're religious...read this article" or something to that effect. Got some work to do there, but thank God for a willing heart :)
Glad you enjoyed Proverbs too William.
DeleteAnd glad you had and took the opportunity to share with a co-worker. The mini-movies could be a powerful follow up in his life.
I learned that the easiest thing to do sometimes when things are not gong your way, is to lose a little bit of faith. But all that stuff should bring you closer to God .
ReplyDelete2) when I was in my military training I could hand out cards but I gave the new recruits that were spiritual the website to help then through training and life.
Important lesson Andre. Keep the faith!
DeleteGlad you gave them the minimovies website.
