Fri.1.16.15...God Loves to Fight for us When He Sees This

This week we are especially focusing on praying that God would defeat the forces of darkness. They have attacked and blinded men even to the battle they are in and to their calling to fight. We need to wrestle in prayer against these demonic foes and that God would use us to help open men’s eyes and turn them from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God. O that they would stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. O that they would become Power HOUSE fighters with us- men who are Hungry, Obedient, Unstoppable, Strong in the Lord and who will Encourage others to become the same as well. Despite the incredible forces against us, we know that there are more for us than against us. And greater is he who is in us than he who is in the world. And we know that because God is our good Father, we can influence him to give us good things if we but ask. So let us ask for great things- great victories to the liberating and transforming of many lives.

But when we ask, there is a key ingredient that draws God into such battles in a special way. It’s a five letter word that is well illustrated in the following amazing story of battle. Read 2 Chronicles 20:1-30. (By the way, don’t you love the word of God? It’s such a men’s book- full of earthly and supernatural battles!)

There are many things that could be said about this war story, but for now let’s focus on this- What attracted God to come to their aid? Was it their fasting? Perhaps, but without this five letter word, I don’t think their fasting would have moved God to fight for them at all. Then what was it? You’ll discover that five letter word in the following cross references-

“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” Rom.4:18-2.1

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Heb.11:6 “And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.” Heb.11:32-34

You discovered it, didn’t you? It’s the five letter word FAITH that motivates God to aid us in our otherwise, hopeless battles (Ps.60:11-12). Faith- “This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” 1John 5:4. This is not a “name it and claim it” faith in whatever I try to declare into existence. This is faith in what God has declared. This is what gave Jehoshaphat so much courage. A prophet declared God’s word of promise that He would defeat their enemies. Jehoshaphat believed and encouraged the people, telling them to “have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld” (2 Chron.20:20). He even put singers at the front of the army to praise the name of the Lord. (I think those singers were some of the greatest men of faith and courage in all the Bible! Put yourself in their sandals. As one man said, “After changing my underwear, I hope I would have the courage to resume my place in line!”:) They praised God. Praise is the language of faith. Include praise as you pray warfare prayers. We saw this even in the pattern of the Lord’s prayer- God’s Praise comes first, then God’s Priorities to further his kingdom and will on earth.

1.-Please share one thing that stood out to you in all that we have covered today.

2.-Write down on your MP3 card this following excellent phrase from 2 Chron.20:20- “Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld…” Then do the Did it.

3.-R?

4.-A? Keep using the two key words we have looked at yesterday and today- Ask and Faith.  Ask in faith that God will give us victories over the enemy. Keep asking in faith that he will open blind eyes that men would see the battle and choose to fight with us. Ask in faith that our good Father would give us, something far more important than bread, but Hungry men. (I think it’s time I end this for now and go for a warfare prayer walk to ask in faith and praise that God will give you Power HOUSE men.)

Did you know that you get credited when you R= Right a wrong when it's not because you did wrong? You get big Respect in our book when you had the courage to graciously talk with someone whom you feel has wronged you or demeaned you in some way. Some slights I can just kiss up to God. No big deal. It rolls off me. Other wrongs may seem very offensive and I can't shake it off even after a couple days. Then I know I need to graciously deal with the offender. I had such an encounter with my manager, of all people. All is well now and he even thanked me. He said he meant no insult and welcomed me to talk to him anytime and not to ever let things fester. Good man! I know with some people it doesn't work out so well. But don't let a root of bitterness develop. It may take repeated attempts or outside help, but be an ambassador of reconciliation. Affirm them first, then graciously broach the subject. "I need your help with something. I'm sure you meant no harm, but the other day I felt...when you..." Hopefully they will want peace, not war. Sadly, some people don't. With those people (the fools described in Proverbs), it might be better to avoid conversations with them as much as possible. Feel free to ask a brother for prayer support if you feel like you're going into the lion's den.

Starting next week we will begin an in depth series on "Being a godly M.E.N.T.O.R." You won't want to miss it- wait a minute, I'm talking to M3 men- you never do. You're Unstoppable!

Starting February 1st and throughout that entire month, we will begin accepting applications for men you're praying for to be your proteges. Protege boot camp training will begin Mon. March 2nd. More will  be shared regarding that soon. Keep Asking that God our Father would give you Hungry men! Attack the enemy's camp. Liberate men. Advance the kingdom of God. Prayer is where we do battle.

You all are doing so well in being Unstoppable in the word and prayer. If I ever mess up on properly crediting you on the Scoreboard below, please let me know. But if you don't put for example that you A= Attacked in prayer, I don't know to credit you. Thanks!

  1. 1.- In 2 Chron. 20:15 we read, 15 "And he said, "Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, 'Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's."

After Jehoshaphat led the whole nation to seek God and acknowledged and praised God for who He was, His promises and past victories
God answers him in verse 15 by telling him not to be afraid of the great enemy they faced because He was going to fight the battle for him and give the nation victory. What a great truth for us to remember always, that we are unstoppable soldiers in God's army but ultimately we need to have faith that He will fight for us and bring victory. Thank you Lord for your Word.

  2. 1. I am amazed by God's unconditional, faultless Love for his faithful people and all humanity. It could have been easy for him to write us off after all the questioning and floundering humans have been through, Our Loving God has always acted to save those who fully trust in him. He rescues us from our enemies and our own self destruction if we just commit our hearts to him--as all he ever wanted was my heart in the first place. In him and through him we can do anything, if we just trust in God and have Faith in him! We can over power and be victorious if we trust, pray, follow his will through his word and communication with him constantly. From Noah's faith in God and being righteous he was led to safety from the flood, as was Abraham when he had so many against him and became the Father of many nations--but he was victorious because of his faith in God, Moses complete faith as he raised his hands to the Lord in Faith, David and Goliath and other leaders who were victorious due to their faith and following of our Lord. God considers those who trust in him as righteous, and " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Phil. 4:13. So I pray and have trust in God as I ask him to be present as we battle the evil one to help lead others from the dark to the light.

  3. 1. If you think about it Jehoshaphat didn't fight this war the right way, at least according to the world's patterns. Instead of following emotions that come in the heat of a battle, he paused and prays and acknowledged God. "Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord..." Although, Jehoshaphat's way of fighting was different from the world it was powerful and effective. Why? Because He acknowledged the God of the Universe. "We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you." With humility Jehoshaphat approaches the Lord. With worship Jehoshaphat honors God. With prayer Jehoshaphat petitions for his people. With faith Jehoshaphat believes God's promise to fight on their behalf. When we are in a battle we can decide to do things of the world or worship the Lord and remember that we have the God of the Universe with us.

    1. Very good cross references to trusting in God for victories Robert. Since you dig deeply, isn't interesting that in Ex.14:14 and 2 Chron.20:15 God says that He Himself will defeat their enemies. Most other battles, the people had to do the fighting as well. That's certainly true of God's call to us- to suit up with the armor of God and fight. We know that all battles require His aid. "O give us aid against the enemy for deliverance by man is in vain." Thanks also for reaching out to other men to help us extend God's kingdom. Udabest!

    2. Absolutely, simply because the victory belongs to the Lord, doesn't absolve us of our responsibilities to do what we can. God provides the fields, seeds, rain, and He does the increase, but we (laborers) must do the work. Hence, Matthew 9:37-38 "Then he (Jesus) said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Let's continue praying for the laborers (MANLY men).

    1) I remember this story when I was a little kid and sharing it with other youth. Its such a powerful act the people did. They could have went crazy but a strong leader in Jehoshaphat called a fast for all of Judah and then told the people to seek GOD. The part that stuck to me today was the fact it said the people of Judah came to together to seek GOD. M3 doesn't have a lot of men but if we unite in prayer and cry out to GOD imagine the things GOD can do. Not only in our church but also in the city. I have faith that a group of men in new life midway will find Power HOUSE men.

  7. The one thought that stood out to me today and has been with me for a long time is that God loves us more than we can imagine. If we had a 10th of the love He has for us, for man kind we would be a great example for God. As we know our flesh gets in the way at times and the love we should have is hidden by satan. I make every attempt to be a good example for our Lord but I know I have fallen short from time to time. I am a work in progress.

  9. 1) 2 Chronicles 20:21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.”

I like that Jehoshaphat consulted with his band of brothers. I admire that they praised God in the midst of trouble. I see that there was a turning point from thinking of being defeated to being conquerors with God's help. Rom. 8:31 ...If God is for us who could be against us.

  10. 1) “This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” 1John 5:4.

Faith is a gift given from God. It is born within us when the Holy Spirit first helps us to hear and understand the gospel message from the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) Faith grows as we feed on God's Word and obey what God says in it. To a point we choose the level of our faith by the daily decisions we make of either serving God or living for ourselves. As we choose to serve and rely upon God, our faith victoriously overcomes the world with it's influences, values and opposition. Heavenly Father, we want be strong and stay strong in a daily active faith that overcomes the world. Thank you for giving us a desire to engage in the battle mission before us of multiply manly men. 11. 1. Besides the whole chapter of 2 Chronicles 20 which I enjoyed reading. Romans 4:18-20 stood out. Speaking about Abraham and trials he faced, Oh but yet did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened by faith and gave glory to God Rom.4:20. Much like Abraham who through many trials and mistakes, he never doubted the goodness of the Lord, he never doubted the plans of Lord, he never doubted God's promises to be fullfilled. Therfore his faith was strengthend and gave glory to God.
O Lord, I lift my hands up to you that I maybe like Abraham. A man with an unwavering heart, that you may strengthen me and M3 band of brothers through tough spiritu al battles that faces us. May my faith continue to trust in your fulfilling promises and know my human limitations that in this spiritual battle will not take me far but in you Lord, you are able!! 12. 1. What stood out to me most today I found here in this section of today's reading: "Jehoshaphat believed and encouraged the people, telling them to “have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld” (2 Chronicles20:20). He even put singers at the front of the army to praise the name of the Lord. (I think those singers were some of the greatest men of faith and courage in all the Bible!" This stood out to me for two reasons. First, Jehoshaphat's courage and confidence fueled his activity and the Lord was able to use him to strengthen and encourage those around him. I want to be that guy! Second, the focus of praise in front of the battle. Last night I was having a difficult time trying to settle down to sleep, what I had to do the next day at work was robbing me of rest. My wife reminded me to get a praise song going an it will help me settle. She remembered what I forgot...place the praise in the front of the battle! In the Revolutionary War and Civil Wars there were not many praise leaders in battle, but along with the infantrymen there were soldiers armed with drums, bugles, and flags. These weaponless warriors job was to rally the troops during the thick of battle and direct squads and platoons in the fray. These guys and Jehoshaphat's praisers are the reminder to push the praise through the fight!

  13. 1. Bob Goff in his awesome book Love Does talks about how faith is like a game of bigger and better. That's a game where you start with a dime and go around the neighborhood and knock on doors stating you're playing the game and ask if that person has something bigger and better than a dime that you can trade up for. Then you take what that person gives you and at the next house, do the same and get something bigger and better. Bob shares about the time his son played the game and started walking around the neighborhood with a dime and first got a mattress, then a ping pong table and continued trading up until he drove home in a pick up truck. He writes: "Christian people say Jesus stands at the door and knocks. I agree. But there's more. He wants us to stand at the door of his house and knock, too. And when he opens the door he wants us to bring all the FAITH we have to him, even if it's only a dime's worth. And he promises he will trade up with us. Because He is what we have the chance to trade for. And what we'll have to give in exchange for knowing him is everything we've accumulated during our lives and are standing on the porch holding on to."

I read this story 2 years ago and knew I had not even a dime, but a penny's worth of faith. The Sunday after I read this is when I was looking for Nick Vasterella in the NL lobby to tell him that there was no hope for my marriage and in looking for Nick I found myself in front of the sign up table for the men's retreat. The brother behind the table asked me if I was signing up for the retreat, and I realized that I was knocking at Jesus' door playing a game of trading my penny's worth of faith for bigger and better. I signed up that day and that retreat transformed my life and saved not only my soul, but also my marriage and my family.

I have much more than a penny's worth of faith now, but I'm still playing and trading up for even bigger and better! (and today's blog on 2 Chronicles 20 was a huge boost in the game of trading up my faith :-)

  14. 1. The one thing that stood out to me today: Noticing that when the nation was facing a disaster, a vast army coming against them, Jehoshaphat called upon the people to fast and to get serious with God for a specified time! That is exactly what we men and New Life Church are encouraged to do at this time of the year! Perfect timing to read this story! By fasting - separating themselves from their daily routine to prepare and eat food, the nation devoted that extra time to repent of their sins and pray to God for divine help! I am sure they were warfare prayers, because the nation was facing imminent death and destruction. Wow, oh God, help me to pray consistent daily warfare prayers for Your will to be done and for Men to get out of the trenches and into the battle for You and Your glory! We need to pray and fast in special situations, for special purposes, and for a time just like this!

    1. Yes I agree completely on the sheer gravity of fasting. As I read in Isaiah Chapter 58 this week it was revealed that the nature of fasting is a reminder to the outward calling ie setting captives free and loosing bounds on our brothers. Rather than what we are neglecting inwardly from the physical body.

  15. One thing that I admire about Jehoshaphat is that he did not hesitate to pray for his city and all that was in his dominion. More to the point he proclaimed a fast among all the people of Judah. So then it was his faith that captured God's attention in answering prayer. Also was the faith of the people of Judah that were active and engaged spirit led prayer and fasting. Jehoshaphat turned to God in the time of need, and he confidently raised his petition, because he first knew God's identity as the "God in Heaven," and "ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations." He also knew his identity as a child of God and an inheritor to that which God has bless him and his nation with.
As stated before there is power in prayer. But how much more are we enabled when speaking to our heavenly father with boldness and confidence. However again I am amazed at the response that Jehoshaphat has to such threatening news about his kingdom. How often do we turn to the left or right or in other worldly things when sin breaks at our foundation or the fabric of our relationships is threatened.
