Today is part 2 of our Coaches Training Review Test. You will Ace this! No erasing necessary.
Please
go back over a few of the blogs from Mon.1.19.15 through Fri.1.28.15. Again, you
can look at what I wrote or what you wrote.
1.-Pull together 2 things you really liked learning about
and post them today. If you need more time, you can work on the test over
Saturday as well. (Who loves ya?:) Please post your answers by Saturday night though.
2.-By Sunday night, please share one or more of these things
with men you’re seeking to recruit to be your protégés. You can call them up or
even email them. (I’ll follow up with you Monday on the blog regarding who you
shared with.)
3.-Did you quote correctly to someone what H.O.U.S.E. and M.A.N.L.Y. stands for?
4.-True or False- The consequence for a brother in M3 not calling you back by the following night is that he needs to offer to buy you a doughnut or a drink.
If you have not yet completed your GPD from last week Thursday, which was due Monday, you need to get 'er done by Saturday night. (Otherwise, as I said yesterday, please tell me Monday what your consequences should be :) If you did already complete and post your summary thoughts of that 9 minute overview on Titus, and you are not credited below on the GREAT scoreboard for this, please contact me and let me know where I can find it. I want to make sure I didn't make a mistake here. Thanks.

Optional: If you’re looking for something in God’s word to
read today, here’s another favorite passage regarding Unstoppable Paul- 2
Cor.11:16-33. If you have more time, 12:1-13 finishes his train of thought. You
can put down one of the phrases from it on your MP3 card. Again, I’m making
this optional because I don’t want to give you too much.

I'm sure you're going to Ace this test. You're bright- a son of God.
Did you hear about the not so bright guy? He spent 3 days studying for a urine test.
Words Worth Repeating
Jack wrote- "Divisive people can become like cancer, as their argumentative ways and anti- system personalities drag other's positive attitudes down, as both sides now become non-productive. Instead of focusing on the prize, our Lord, they are focused on being right and proving an argumentative point, which most of the time is of no consequence. They draw other good men down as they pull their focus off God's mission and turn it to combating an unimportant issue. Now our movement forward and being used by God for his purpose is halted and we are not productive toward the Kingdom. Reprimand him 2x to let him know of his divisive ways, then cut off contact with him if he continues. Cancer spreads-- so cut it out early to avoid the spreading-- so we can be more effective."

Sunday Feb.8th at 3:00 is our next M3 meeting at Jack's. I look forward to honoring my Unstoppable brothers and also unveiling some great new things for you.
You are welcome to come early that same day, Feb.8th, for "The Bible" DVD discussion starting with refreshments at 1:00 PM. It will be even better if you can join us. Your loved ones are again welcome.

1.- A.- 1Tim 4:8 " for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."
ReplyDeleteWhat a great challenge is given to us by Paul, that we are to persue godliness above other things. Because godliness not only will affect our current ministry but also has eternal value. May we be able to follow Paul's example and be a clear, decisive, unstoppable and Godly follower of Christ so that in turn our proteges may also see a good example in our lives worthy to be followed.
B.- Titus 2:8 "and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us."
To me this is a very important verse because it is so easy to give a bad testimony by what we talk about or say about other people. Instead we should be doing the opposite, always speaking God's truth so that we can inspire and build up people around us by our example. Dear Lord help us to be imitators of Jesus so that can be held above reproach.

Once again, excellent Roger!
ReplyDelete1. It was a great series on mentoring. I liked going through the book of Titus. First thing that caught my attention was being an imitator of God, as Christ has set a model and an example for us to follow. That was the main idea of what it means to be a Godly mentor. In doing so, point two comes from Titus and Timothy, in everything set an example by doing what is good, and set an example for believers (and non-believers) in your speech. It's important as Dave pointed out, our walks talk louder than our talk talks.

DeleteI like the way the blog helps me stay in the word. I learned more about the Bible in the past couple of months than I have in the past year. I read the whole Bible since I have been saved but I have never studied it the way I have since joining the M3. I can’t pick out two things that I really liked learning at this time because I like all the things we are learning thus far.
ReplyDelete2.-By Sunday night, please share one or more of these things with men you’re seeking to recruit to be your protégés. You can call them up or even email them. (I’ll follow up with you Monday on the blog regarding who you shared with.)

Very good Vince! You're almost done then. Just share with a couple of people what you've been learning. So glad to have you on the team. You're going to make a great impact on many as we go along together.

ReplyDeleteI liked learning about a godly mentor. As we had discussed Paul made himself available as a coach and carefully lived that he could be modeled after. As a certain cliché goes lead by example. As coaches ourselves the question this month will be if we are impacted enough to make a difference by showing repentance and leading with a changed heart (good works). One thing I also thought of from mentoring is to be Salt and Light of the World. As a people changed by God we show the example of what an impact that the gospel makes on a person
1b
I also found very helpful learning the consequences of strife and divisiveness. This detail is so important to keep the main thing the main thing. The focus on Christ and again on the gospel. If smaller details that even now divide so may will fester there is truth that such disagreements are unprofitable and will separate a people that (as I have learned) are to be a single nation of God's chosen people. As we model and lead by the same great examples we are given it is my prayer that we do not debate each other harshly and rile each other up.

Great Gary! Just share with a couple other people what you've been learning and you're done. Excellent!
Delete1. The two lessons that I enjoyed centered on what we say and what we do. The devotional on modeling struck me profoundly as this is a value that I think about often in both my professional and personal life. One of my favorite quotes from St. Francis of Assisi deals with the importance of modeling: "Preach the gospel always...when necessary us words." Secondly, I enjoyed revisiting the importance of wholesome speech. There are so many scriptures that deal with what you say that a refresher on it was helpful.

Alright Alvin! Very good. I also look forward to reading your GDP thoughts from Th.1.22 on the 9 minute YouTube video on Titus. Best of blessings!
Delete1) 4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.
ReplyDelete8 so we cared for you.Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.
I like that Paul did not dilute the gospel in attempt to gain favor from the people. He knew that God would hold him accountable. I also liked that they showed God's love by sharing their lives.
I pray that we continue share what God has given us, in order to advance his kingdom. May we share our gifts, phileo, wisdom, homes, time, hearts, mistakes, food and anything else i am missing.
1 b)encourage others by sound doctrine- I find myself doing this at times. I believe this is part of our calling. In order for us to persevere through trials, we need to encourage each other and what better way than God's word (sound doctrine). God bless you all and keep advancing the Kingdom of God.

Holt International helps children in dire need. Please see more info at http://holtinternational.org. It is more blessed to give than receive.
Proverbs 3:27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.
Very good Sam! My daughter went to the same concert.
Delete1. I liked parts 1&2 of Being a Godly mentor
ReplyDeletea. Modeling--we must realize the impact we have on others as we play our role in helping bring others to Jesus.
"more is caught than taught" and " Walk the walk" is what we should focus on instead of talk the talk-but not living by what we say.
We must lead protégés by our living example--
J--give up ourselves as we follow Jesus. "Follow me" said by Jesus in 1 Peter 2:21
O-- Lead others through the Holy Spirit within us, to mentor, coach, encourage, and live lives worthy of God.
Y--then you
b." Dear Brothers and Sisters, Pattern your life after mine and learn from those who follow our example." Phil. 3:17
We must pattern our lives after Paul and of course Jesus, to teach protégés.
Spiritual training such as we are going through produces mature Godly Character, which will endure throughout this life as we mentor and into eternity with our Lord face-to-face.

Delete1) The importance on attitude, I believe is vastly underestimated. I believe a "good" attitude in intertwined into the "fruits" of the spirit. I remember once I herd John Mcarther say that the truth without love was brutality. In like manner I believe good deeds without a good attitude is dead faith, why do I say such a thing, well because we are commanded to be joyful and respectful. And while actions may express them they are accompanied by attitudes that affirm them. Another great truth from this segment is that our faith needs to be attractive. The unattractive-e faith is not Christianity while Christ offended many He attracted many more. While The love of God exposes sin it also nourishes the sinner, delivering strength to him/her supplying them with what is necessary in order humble themselves and act out His will. I believe the attractiveness of our Christ like love creates the safety people need for the Christ like correction, Spirit led sorrow, and the Father's ordained recompense.

1A (1/19/15) Being a Godly Mentor.
ReplyDeleteDave shared this poem by Edgar A Guest about mentoring:
I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way.
The eye's a better pupil and more willing than the ear,
Fine counsel is confusing, but example's always clear;
And the best of all preachers are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action is what everybody needs.
I soon can learn to do it if you'll let me see it done;
I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run.
And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true,
But I'd rather get my lessons by observing what you do;
For I might misunderstand you and the high advice you give,
But there's no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.
This reminded me of dear friends in Crystal Lake, IL – a Christian family that home schooled
8 children. Our family joined them on one of their “field trips” into down town Chicago. Armed with sandwiches and small practical items, we sought out some of the homeless to share what we had. Occasionally we were also able to share about God's love with some and to pray for others. What an impact that had on our children.
1b) Mon.1.26.15...Being a Godly MENTOR...(Model part 6)
Dave's training: “But if we are not properly motivated, behaving well can end up being rather dull. Some Christians live a rather bland life. They seem to live "good" lives, but they don't seem to have much joy. Sadly, that doesn’t make the teaching about God our Savior attractive. So how can we make sure that our lives don't degenerate into "gutting it out" Christianity? Let’s find out. Read Titus 2:11-15. God's amazing grace gives us the motivation- grateful love- rather than gutting it out.” I think we all have been through cycles like this. The fact is that it doesn't have to be that way. By His abounding grace, God desires to recapture our hearts and the hearts of the men in the church for Himself if we seek to draw closer to Him. Being part of M3 joins us with other men who encourage each other to stay motivated and engaged in the great mission of expanding God's kingdom.

Delete1. I enjoyed learning about the importance of us personally modeling the Word of God in our own lives for the sake of our salvation but also for the sake of others. It was helpful to be reminded about how language and joking can dishonor God and that "little sins" are just as grievous to God as ones we consider big. Lastly I found value in the lesson regarding attitude and what the Bible says to do with those who are divisive.

Good George. Would love to hear more about what you got out of the past 2 weeks.
DeleteSo glad to have you my friend on the team.
1. (a) I chose verse 9 which states, "He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it." --I know one of our responsibilities is to "Prevent False Teaching" from having a platform at our church, thereby disrupting whole families. The faith of many christians and new believers has been shaken and overturned by these false teachers. They must be silenced and rebuked sharply (vs 11-13). Oh Lord, please give me great understanding, a humble heart, and wisdom with boldness for the truth, use me to refute ALL false teaching head on, sometimes with grace and sometimes very sharply!!
ReplyDelete(b) I chose verses 9 & 10 that states "Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive." --As a small business owner myself, I see the importance of this. The employer is looking for a worker that is honest and trustworthy and someone who takes responsibility and ownership of their actions, that will hopefully "Prosper his employer". I believe that every employee's goal is to help his employer prosper and be successful, as a result of his/her work ethic. I have seen way too much an attitude of "entitlement" by employees and a less than stellar work ethic. Very sad :(

ReplyDeleteAlright Sam!
Delete1.M= Modeling. Paul said, that he and his ministry team (coaches) carefully lived “in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow” 2 Th.3:9. If we are going to have any significant impact on protégés and others, we need to be good models. Remember, more is caught than taught.
ReplyDeleteChildren certainly learn so much by the example of others. It’s also true for adults as well. Jesus repeatedly said, “Follow me.” Peter wrote that Christ left “you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” 1Pet.2:21. Paul said, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” 1 Cor.11:1. Wow! What an example Paul was to follow! Leaders know the way, go the way and and show the way. "Follow me!"
2. Paul’s short letter to Titus is a brilliant battle plan for transforming “not good” people into people “eager to do what is good” (2:14). These evil brutes and lazy gluttons (1:12) needed to become a lean, mean, fighting machine of good works to “make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.” (2:10). Such transformations occur best when we are MENTORS who Model such. Thus, note again Paul’s strategic command, “In everything set them an example by doing what is good.” Titus 2:7. Half a dozen times in this short letter, you’ll see this emphasis on doing good. It’s to be for the glory of our Savior and the salvation of the lost which we once were.
