Th.1.8.15...For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, Amen!

We have studied, meditated and prayed our way through the Lord’s Prayer over the past several days. It has hopefully improved your prayer life. We have learned how to use it as a pattern for powerful praying. We have seen that a balanced prayer life includes:
1.God’s Praise (Our Father in heaven, holy is your name)
2.God’s Priorities (Thy kingdom come, thy will be done). This comes before-
3.Our Petitions
for our physical needs (Give us this day our daily bread)
for our spiritual needs-
for pardon(Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us)
for protection- (lead us away from temptation, deliver us from evil).

This brings us to the end of this perfect pattern of prayer. Or does it? Some Protestants (The name given to those who protested against the Catholic church in the 1500s sparking the Protestant Reformation) grew up in churches where a beautiful doxology (praise) ended the Lord’s prayer- “For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. (As a boy, I even heard that doxology sung many times.) It seems fitting that the Lord’s prayer should end with such majestic words of praise. But where did those ending words of praise come from. Answer: The King James Bible, which so many Protestant pastors preached from. But why does the King James Bible include that ending and the modern translations don’t? Great question! What if your protégé hit you up with that question and you didn’t already know the answer? That’s when I want you to Google it. Don’t get me wrong; I love to field Bible questions, so always feel free to call me. It’s one of the few times this dumb guy feels smart. But I don’t want you stuck with me. The answer to the King James Version (KJV) question can be a long and complicated one, depending on which site you land on. But a short answer to the short endings in a few different passages of the NT is at- http://www.gotquestions.org/missing-verses.html. Please read this over now. I want to recommend gotquestions.org as a “go to” site for you and your proteges. It’s got a lot of short but sweet answers and articles. There’s beauty in brevity.

The Pulpit Commentary (published in 1890) has some glowing words to say about the ending three part praise to God’s kingdom, power and glory. “By our praise to him it induces in us the remembrance- that it is to God's kingdom that we belong, having him for King and Source of law; that it is by God's power that we live on earth and stand freed from Satan's grasp; that it is for the furtherance of God's glory that all has been done for us, all wrought in us, all these petitions are now made and all our hopes and aims are directed.”

One day when our King returns, all of the Lord’s prayer will be a doxology- praise. German Bible scholar, Johann Bengel (1687-1752), imagined how we might then pray the Lord’s prayer as pure praise- "Hallowed be the Name of our God. His kingdom has come; his will is done. He has forgiven us our sins. He has brought our temptation to an end; He has delivered us from the evil one. His is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

1.-Speaking of God's kingdom, power and glory, there is one book that highlights such more than any other- the book of Revelation. Though it can be complicated in spots, it is also loaded with beautiful passages of praise to God's kingdom, power and glory. Thumb through it and pick a verse or phrase and share it to also give us fuel for the fire of our praise of God.

2.-Write out on your MP3 card a portion of what you picked out above and enjoy meditating on it, praying and praising it back to God and passing on to someone else.

  1. 1,- Rev1:17-18 17
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades."

Thank you Lord that you have always existed and always will. Thank you that even though I deserved death you sent your son Jesus to die for my sins and that because of your redemption I will also live forever in your presence. Thank you!.

  2. 1. Revelation 6:10 "They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”

The verse I chose are the prayers of the martyrs who had been slain because they did not coward in the face of persecution and death. It's a prayer for peace and justice that we yearn/long for. Our hearts/souls desire to be restored to the fellowship Adam once enjoyed with God in the Garden. We live in a country that allows us to worship freely (mostly) and we often take that freedom for granted. Increased opposition and violence against Christianity is evident all over the globe. I've heard the hypothetical question, that if Christianity were to become illegal in this country and we were arrested, would there be enough evidence to prosecute us? Hebrews 12:4 "In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood."

    Revelation 19:1
After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:“Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God"

  3. Revelation 22:12 "look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they done"

Powerful verse of GOD showing his love. we need still faithful to him because we shall get a reward. Lets pray continuously to not fall into temptation. GOD IS GOOD. He is the first and the last. Revelation is a great book to try to decode. It takes a lot of study and time. It fill with so much knowledge.

    Great website for every believer.

    GOD BLESS

  4. Revelation 4:8 "Each of the living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around even under it's wings. Day and night they never stop saying "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty; who was, and is, and is to come". I read this and it is a constant reminder first how we will praise God when we get into heaven but most of all if we stay faithful to Him we will be given the strength and wisdom to preserver and one day we will be in God's presents.

  5. 1. Rev. 1:5b-6 To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever.

You see the words, "freed", "made us a kingdom", "loves us" ...seems very similar to the commentary posted :

“By our praise to him it induces in us the remembrance- that it is to God's kingdom that we belong, having him for King and Source of law; that it is by God's power that we live on earth and stand freed from Satan's grasp; that it is for the furtherance of God's glory that all has been done for us, all wrought in us, all these petitions are now made and all our hopes and aims are directed.”

    3. R - I snapped at my dad for something super petty. Driving to work I was convicted, so I called him and apologized. Something about that unspoken silence when you overstep your boundaries or hurt others by your words. Kinda stinks...definitely want to grow and mature and gain self-control with my tongue. Lord, forgive me for thinking that while I needed You to save me, somehow I am going to change myself. I need You. Please flow Your grace, mercy and strength into my life. I invite You into all of my difficult circumstance and personal relationships and ask that You would give me the grace to put off all sinful, bad, and "stinkin'" attitudes and replace them with righteous ones, attitudes that reflect You. In Jesus' Name! Amen.

  6. !. Revelations 4:11 " You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being."
He created all things and everyone; from Adam and Eve he started mankind and they failed him in the Garden of Eden with sin--but he was forever faithful and let mankind grow and flourish--what incredible Love. Our mere existence we glorify him for and honor him for his persistence and forgiveness to allow us to be rescued--but more important its all about him and we must remain forever faithful and obedient to his will and we anxiously await your return.

    3. R I don't have enough time to tell the full story now, but would love to share it. Last night I had a difficult conversation with my condo Board and became angry--I quickly caught myself and apologized to the man asked for forgiveness of the man and God, as I mentioned that I was saved and it was not Godly of me to show anger. As we began to wind up the conversation he asked me if I would share how I came to the Lord. I jumped on it and gave my testimony and he proceeded to tell me about his difficulty giving himself fully to the Lord.
Seed planted and we are meeting next week as became very intrigued--Praise God!

  7. In Revelations I remember the 24 elders seated before God's proclaiming Holy Holy Holy. Rev 4:11 "Worthy are you Lord and God to receive glory honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.

This explains to me the offer of worship and submission to God's authority. That God has Dominion in creation as well as the "glory, honor, and power." We extol these things to God because of our inheritance from Him, and because of His identity as Creator

  9. 1) Revelation 2:3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.

I pray that we do not grow tired of advancing the Kingdom of God. I pray that we persevere through hardships and rejoice in persecution for God.

It makes sense to be precise when it comes to God's word. I understand that it does not who God is. Thanks for the site. I will be spending my time wisely reading it.

  10. Revelations 5:13 -Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”

As the multitude of angels will have their own beautiful song of worship of the Lamb of God (Revelations 5:12) , so shall we with every other creature. But we who know our Savior now, do not have to wait for that great event of Jesus opening the seals to express these praises. There is no other One so deserving now of our admiration, respect, worship and love then the He who gave all of Himself for us who were so lost and worthless.

  11. Revelation 3:21 NIV

To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
O that in the day of your return(Jesus) may you remember me, know me and say "well done my good and faithful servant", "today you will be in paradise with me". May I be in awe of your splendor and praise you for all the days of my life..

  12. 1. Dave you took me back! I remember singing the doxology of praise when I was a kid in church:
"Praise God from whom all blessings flow...
Praise Him all creatures here below!
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost! A-men!"

The song has such a reverent majesty to it; the lyrics, the phrasing, and melody work together to project the gravitas of the song! Revelation 4:11 does a similar thing “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” In John's vision these simple phrases project the whole of God

    2. So did you hear the Lord's prayer prayed first and then the doxology as the ushers brought the offering forward? That's how was in the little country church my mom took us to religiously :)

  13. 1. I chose Revelation 5:11-13, which states "Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”

--- This verse reminds me of the Lord's Prayer and the portion that states “For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever." In Revelation 5, we see 100,000,000 Angels ( 10,000 X 10,000 ) singing Praise to the Father and the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ :) Wow, what a powerful vision this was! I just Love the Praise and adoration to the Lamb! To just imagine these 100,000,000 spiritual beings (angels) giving honor and praise to Christ, and one day we, as brothers in the Lord, will join them! I cannot wait for that Day! Woo Hoo :)
