From our
study through the book of Titus we’ve been seeing that to MENTOR men we need to
be godly Models or examples for them
to follow. “In everything set them an example by doing what is good.” Titus
2:7. (We may not always “live right,”
but we can even model what to do when we do wrong. We R- we seek to Right wrongs, Restore relationships.) We will strive to live godly lives and train
others to do the same. This is the way that we will “make the teaching about
God our Savior attractive.” Titus 2:10.
But if
we are not properly motivated, behaving well can end up being rather dull. Some
Christians live a rather bland life. They seem to live "good" lives, but they don't seem to have much joy. Sadly, that doesn’t make the teaching
about God our Savior attractive. So how can we make sure that our lives don't degenerate into "gutting it out" Christianity? Let’s find out. Read Titus 2:11-15.
God's amazing grace gives us the motivation- grateful love- rather than gutting it out. For what its worth, here’s
my simple outline of Titus 2:11-15- God’s school of amazing grace:
God's school of amazing grace teaches us how to:
1)-Warfare-
Say NO to ungodliness and worldy passions. Put such to death! Col.3:5
2)-Walk-
Live it up- Living self-controlled, upright, and godly lives.
3)-Wait-
Live in dependence and anticipation of our great God and Savior’s return.
4)-Worship-
Honor Christ for giving himself to redeem us, purify us and make us his
precious people.
4)-Work-
Serve our Savior, eager to do what is good out of love and gratitude.

1.-Titus
2:11-15 has revealed great motivation for teaching and living such godly lives.
Share your discovery in a sentence or two of praise. (We must never lose sight
of this, or our Christian lives and M3 will bog down into mere religious morals
and duties.)
2.-Write
out on your MP3 card any portion of Titus 2:11-15 that you want to further
Meditate on, Pray into your life, Praise Him for and Pass on to others. Then do
the Did it. Please do look for an opportunity today to pass on the gem you wrote down.

I like the way Daniel gave kudos to others' good words and also wrote a good prayer. He wrote on Thursday- "I agree with Gary and others about the importance of self control, which is mentioned repeatedly in 2:1-10 and is a gift from the Spirit that I claim for my life, in Jesus' name. I am also inspired by Jack's words today "As we read the word daily it continually leads us to living a controlled life"... Lord, I will hide your word in my heart and learn it, live it and create a space for the the gift of self control to come in and drive me to that which is from You, not from myself.
Eddie's words got me doing a double take. Clever Eddie! He wrote- "By operating by the Spirit we can live and do things contrary to our selfish desires. So that when we are in an environment, such as Titus was in Crete, where everyone is ok with responding to their desires, but we operate in the Spirit and exercise self-control then we are living a questionable life. A life that gets people asking questions that may ultimately be attractive and point to God.
Men, you are GREAT Models of being Unstoppable in God's word and our Attack times in warfare prayer are becoming such as well. And R- Our honesty with each other is refreshing. (My wife and I have a good marriage, and it's "gooder" after we R'd this weekend :)

C. As in any army, we're given marching orders
D. We serve a God that cannot lie "The Non-Lying God"

Very good George!
Delete1)2)Verse 13. "looking for the blessed hope and glorious apprearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ". I believe this reveals the God ordained motivation to produce gratuitus service to God and His goals. once we realign our focus from the minute details of our present sress or even contentment, to the global perspective. That we are living for the "return of our king". That we are waiting for Him to enforce His rule, end our pain, and glorify our bodies. Then these present troubles become small, and our sacrifices meaningful.

Hi Dave, I looked at the video and regretfully didn't realize there was only 9 minutes of it which needed to be listened to. Anyway the things I noted were that in the last days we are to be wary of false teachers and those that spread philosophy in place of Biblical teaching. Also I got that as leaders how we display our characters is very important and determines whether we are hypocrites or real leaders. This was in all truthfulness not my favorite presentation as the voice seemed rather monotone and admittedly I wasn't a fan given my exhaustion and not realizing I needed to only listen to a smaller portion of the entire video. Despite that, thank you for all you do and for assembling this group.
DeleteGot it!
Delete1. Titus 2:12
ReplyDeleteThank you Father for GIVING your Grace to me.

Yes Ismael, and "how precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed."
Delete1. I chose verse 15 that states, "These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you." - this verse feeds off of earlier chapter verses 7-8, that states "In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us." Oh Lord Jesus, thank You for the opportunity to just dive into Your Word daily and to soak it up like a sponge. Give me great understanding and the wisdom to live out Your word and principles with Joy and boldness and help me to make it attractive to the outside world and to fellow christian soldiers. Thank you for the opportunity to lead a new men's bible study. I am enjoying all the extra study and preparation time. Use me to speak boldly in love Your awesome transforming Word and to defend the gospel truth! Amen.

ReplyDeleteThanks Dave :) You have encouraged me sooooo much to step up and get involved :) Yes, I am grateful that the Lord is giving me several opportunities to help advance His kingdom :) Woo Hoo. By the way, I just completed my GDP project and I posted it on Sunday's blog.
DeleteIsrael, you're actions based on being encouraged are in themselves encouraging, certainly to me and I'm sure to others. Keep modeling being a GODLY mentor!
Delete1. I always interpreted grace as forgiveness for the past, but not as a teacher on how to live my present and how to walk in a godly fashion in the future. My takeaway from today is that Grace is not a pill we take when we feel guilty, it is something that should be manifest in our daily thoughts, actions and lives.

5. I liked the Titus video overview a lot (and also the outlines search tip). It provided chronological and historical context and established the relationship between Paul and Titus and the "marching orders" that Titus was given by Paul. There was a good mix of facts and explanations and expanding on key verses, like the build he did on the eternal life promised to us by a "non-lying God".
The summary of Titus and it's directions for both leaders and followers was simple and I will use it when I'm back in Chicago to walk my son through Titus together, as I've never walked through a whole book with him, only specific verses.
Your words are encouraging to hear bro. "Going to go through the book together". A man that loves the Lord, therfore his decedents will know of our God. Amen #legacy maker
DeleteFantastic Daniel!!!
DeleteThe video and summary of Titus was simple, direct and straight to the point. A couple of points that I liked explaining about false teachers and how Paul does not have a "Lying God" for God can not lie but in Crete did have them and explained about them and there rebellious ways and actually had proof (testimony) through one of their own saying "lazy" and "liars". Also gives solutions on to reproof them with sound doctrine and that it may not lead them astray.
ReplyDeleteAnother point, it actually helps me how Paul is writing to leaders and to laity in which I didn't know what it meant until I looked it up.
Very good Ismael!
